Our dear Bruins helped avoid an unnecessary fan meltdown as they defeated the Belfast Giants Select Team 5-1 yesterday afternoon in Ireland at the Odyssey Arena.
If it wasn't for Twitter we wouldn't believed this game even happened. We're disgusted by the lack of TV coverage for the Bruins pre-season and the game against the Giants.
Days of Y'Orr pal Joe Murray tried to help us out with a link to an online feed, but the internet connection at the Days of Y'Orr offices was about as good as Ryder's pre-season.
Even ESPN's updates were awful. They claimed it was 0-0 at the end of the second. Obviously that was not the case.
We got the impression that if the Bruins had lost to the Belfast Giants Select Team there would have been a fan meltdown. With the Bruins struggling in pre-season and some "fans" already writing the season off, we're sure there were some jumpers on the Tobin after the first period ended in a scoreless tie. Days of Y'Orr is starting a campaign to get every Bruins fan some Prozac prior to the season so you can all relax.
After the jump some notes from the game, some sweet Bruins links and a Tyler Seguin penalty shot goal.....
Basically we're telling you what we know based on reading coverage from those lucky enough to be overseas covering the Bruins European trip. Here goes....
After a scoreless first, Jade Galbraith scored the first goal of the game to put the Giants up 1-0. Imagine if there was TV coverage? People would've been down at the TD Garden burning Bruins jerseys.
What followed was an apparent furious Bruins attack. The B's scored 3 goals in a 46 second span (Seguin, Chara and Marchand) and never looked back.
Milan Loooooooooooooooooooooooocic would add a goal in the third before Tyler Seguin scored his second of the night on a penalty shot:
By all accounts, Seguin had a fantastic game. Guess the two goals scored made that obvious though, eh?
Our boy and crowd favorite Shawn "Wayne" Thornton had two assists on the night, proving he's more than just a tough guy. We love Shawn Thornton.
So a solid showing for the Bruins. Sounds like they're all having a great time over there which is great. Apparently Chara gave a speech after the game thanking all the Irish fans for coming out and making the Bruins feel at home.
"It was great, people enjoyed it and the boys really had a good time. That wasn't for show when Z was thanking people because we really had a good time while we were here," Shawn Thornton told reporters.
The Days of Y'Orr staff would also like to thank the Belfast Giants and Josh Prudden for helping us out and taking the time to do an interview with us. Best of luck to Josh and the Giants this year.
Good Weekend Links:
Oh that Johnny Boychuk. The Bruins official site is doing a feature called "Boych Meets World" where Boychuk excitedly talks about his travels.
We love Boychuk. Days of Y'Orr staff members have been alternating between their Boychuk and Thornton shirts all week. Our girlfriends are requesting we wash them. Psh.
Red Light District Hockey Blog gathered bloggers from each of the Eastern Conference teams and asked them one "burning question" about their team. Good read (featuring Days of Y'Orr buddy Mark Marino).
Speaking of Mark, he gives you six games you may want to attend at the TD Garden this upcoming season.
The Hockey Blog Adventure has their take on Gionta being named captain of the Habs. No Habs No!
If you haven't heard of Blogapalooza by now, well you should. Our good friend Joe Gill is hosting Blogapalooza 2 at the Baseball Tavern on Saturday November 6th. Basically its a day for Boston sports writers, bloggers and fans to get together and talk sports over some drinks. They'll have give aways, raffles and members of CSNNE will be there throughout the day.
The Days of Y'Orr staff will be there. You should be too. Click the 'Palooza link to register. Also check out Joe Gill's site, Boston Sports Then and Now.
