After four days off because of basketball and a shitty band playing at the TD Garden, the Bruins are finally back in action. They welcome in a smoking red hot Colorado Avalanche club that is 3-0 and playing well under Patrick Roy. I mean, if we're playing the scoreboard game, Colorado has allowed 3 goals in 3 games and while they haven't beaten world beaters (Anaheim, Nashville and Toronto) they are still quality wins.
Semyon Varlamov is having a fantastic start to the season. He's 3-0 with a 1.00 GAA and a .967 save percentage. I know we're three games into the season, but if Varlamov was 0-3 with a 3.00 GAA and a .907 SV%, we would just chalk it up to 'Varlamov gon Varlamov'. I think it is good to acknowledge when a goalie is having a hot start and he's been the best. Someone on Twitter said it best: The Euro goalies are playing well with a combination of the smaller nets and smaller pads.
Luckily for Boston, I believe J.S. Giguere is starting for the Avalance and J.S. Giguere has been a virtual journeyman since he won a Stanley Cup in Anaheim. Yeah, I forget he's a Stanley Cup goalie too actually.
I know it's a small sample size (but realistically, it's the only thing we have to base this on) - Colorado is one of the best 5 on 5 shooting teams in the NHL. If we are going to judge their performance using...
WARNING: FANCY STATS APPROACHING
Fenwick (which is shots plus shot attempts that miss the net), Colorado ranks fourth with a 46.7 Fenwick per 60 minutes. They're also 19th in the NHL in Fenwick Against per 60, which means you can get shots on this team as well. They've allowed 100 shots in 3 games, which ranks their Fenwick Against 12th worst in the NHL.
FANCY STATS NOW ENDING, PROCEED WITH NORMAL READING
Nate McKinnion, last years first overall pick that everyone was crucifying Colorado for taking, looks like he's turning into quite the player. He has four assists through his first three games and has looked pretty good out there - minus that whole ordeal with Anaheim which led Patrick Roy to take a nutty.
I'll be honest, I think that shit with Roy was a little overblown. Either way, I can see why he was pissed at Fatty McFatface. The game was over and Boudreau's player takes a run at MacKinnion? I'd be pissed too.
The scary thing about Colorado? Gabe Landeskog has done shit so far.
I still think Boston takes this game though, unless Chad Johnson starts. God, I am dreading his first start - which means he'll shut whoever he's facing out and turn to the camera and say "Fuck you Pez" on NESN. Imagine? Probably be the best thing to happen to NESN in awhile, especially since the highly rated Sox Appeal is no longer on television anymore.
It's a crime against television really.
After the jump, the rest of the preview...
With Söderberg still not practicing, the lines are staying the same.

Last night's DOY Live was unreal. Justin was on location from New York and we had special guest Ed Cash on with us. We talked about the first two Bruins games, Jordan Caron, Carl Söderberg's ankle, how pug fugly Dougie Hamitlon is, puck sluts, the shittiness of the Bruins Twitter account and tons and tons more. Plus it was a trainwreck, plus I ranted on about everything.
DOY Flying Bear T-Shirt
Our Flying Bear Tees are still available. They run from youth medium all the way to 2XL. As a big dude, the 2XL fits perfectly so if you're worried about how they fit - DON'T BE. Seriously, I'm super picky and this shirt looks awesome.
Like I say every time, we're in our second run and they're going quickly so jump on it now. Once they're gone, they're gone.
