The Islanders are a less than fortunate hockey team who is loaded with forward talent. They have guys like John Tavares, Thomas Vanek, Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen. They can run two formidable lines at you - but then that's about it. A team loaded with talent in a terrible division and they're looking at a draft pick in the top
10 5. Due to the conditions of the Vanek trade, the Islanders can make their first round pick become Buffalo's in 2015 if the Islanders pick is in the top 10.
Based on the standings (14th in the East), it doesn't seem like New York is poised for a playoff run this year. That can change with about two full months of the season left (half of February, March, half of April) but when you're relying on a tandem of Nabakov and Anders Nilsson you can't expect miracles.
The thing about the Islanders? They give the Bruins fits. Boston is 0-2 against them this year, including a disasterous 5-3 loss at home. That game still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The Islanders seemed like they could whatever they wanted against the Bruins, with John Tavares being the biggest proponant of that. Tavares had 4 points (2G, 2A) and the Islanders as a whole had four power play goals (on 8 power play chances).
And then there's Vanek.
In 18 career regular season games since 2010, Vanek has scored 11 goals, has 13 assists for a total of 26 points. This includes 5 points in 3 games this season. It's a complete mindfuck as to how Vanek continues to kill the Bruins. I'm sure he'll have a hattrick tonight.
In other news, I wish the Bruins were able to play at Yankee Stadium tonight. I mean, the rink is there so why not? Oh, because it doesn't make any money for NBC? Oh okay - gotcha. Also, I'm sure the rink is a slush puppie at the moment. The ice didn't look great yesterday to begin with or was that the Devils defense?
Alright, I'm rambling...
In: I'm going with Rask tonight against the better forward group, Chad tomorrow
