We find ourselves in a funny place today as Bruins fans.

We, like most Bruins fans, believe there was no malice on Chara's end. We believe it was an unfortunate incident with an almost tragic ending. We say "almost" because it sounds like Pacioretty will be able to play again, though not this season.

If you're a Montreal fan, you're spreading idiocy like the plague. Apparently Chara plotted this for years. Chara wanted to end Pacioretty's career. He should be burned at the stake, drawn and quartered and then fed to Oprah.

Apparently Montreal fans are also mind readers. They claim Chara 100% intended to injure Pacioretty and that they "know this for a fact!" Oh really? You talk to Chara today? He admit that to you? Because if so we'd love to hear the recording of that. Montreal is like a freaking zoo.


Habs fans are emailing us telling us they hope we die. I guess we were in on the plot with Chara. They're saying we don't know how it feels to see a player from our team laying motionless on the ice.

Guess they haven't heard of Marc Savard. Or Patrice Bergeron.

We're focusing on Buffalo for the sake of this preview, don't worry, we got stuff on Montreal in the works.


'Tis a bittersweet day in the Days of Y'Orr office.  Naturally we loves us some Buffalo Sabres games, those magical games where our twitters and emails runneth over with insults and hate mail spewing from the fingertips of Sabres fans.  Almost all 100% stupid and totally uncalled for and unprovoked.

Ok...maybe not TOTALLY unprovoked...
Sadly, barring a playoff match up, this is the final meeting of these two teams this season.  While it'll be nice not drowning in the Katrina-level monsoon of tears that typically follows a Sabres game (win or lose), we'd be lying if we said that we aren't a little choked up about it.


With that in mind, we're going to do something a little different with this preview.  After the jump, we are taking a look back at just a few of our favorite Buffalo Sabres photoshops this year.  For the sake of space we excluded the photos sent to us for the Tougher Than Kaleta post, but there is some good stuff there, so check it out if you haven't.

Holy shit. Slightly shocked by this. Didn't think Chara deserved a suspension but thought the NHL would hand one out anyways.

Mike Murphy statement on Chara (via Sean Leahy's twitter):

After a thorough review of the video I can find no basis to impose supplemental discipline. This hit resulted from a play that evolved and then happened very quickly -- with both players skating in the same direction and with Chara attempting to angle his opponent into the boards. I could not find any evidence to suggest that, beyond this being a correct call for interference, that Chara targeted the head of his opponent, left his feet or delivered the check in any other manner that could be deemed to be dangerous. This was a hockey play that resulted in an injury because of the player colliding with the stanchion and then the ice surface. In reviewing this play, I also took into consideration that Chara has not been involved in a supplemental discipline incident during his 13-year NHL career.

What'll be interesting will which Habs player will try to get retribution next time the Bs and Habs meet. Ryan White? He barely held his own against Boychuk. We're pretty sure Gomez will just try to talk Chara into tears. Subban will just go yap his gums. Hal Gill will just stand there like... well, Hal Gill.

Habs fans are already getting whiny and creating a Greg Campbell conspiracy. Some are still saying Bruins can't play real hockey (their record would prove otherwise). Some are saying the end result is what matters -- if that's the case any hit that results in an injury is suspendable and you might as well be watching women's Olympic hockey (Habs style, of course). Others are wondering who Lucic and Thornton will "kill" next. Not sure what they have to do with Chara. We don't blame Habs fans for being angry -- we'd be too -- but these grand conspiracies is just unneeded drama.

Really, the NHL needs to get rid of that stupid glass box between the benches. We know it's to help keep the team's from throwing jabs at each other and so Pierre McGuire can rub one out, but you get rid of that area somehow and you've cut down the turnbuckles in half from four to two -- just the two at each end of the bench.

It's also being reported that Pacioretty has a severe concussion (duh) and a fractured vertibrea (eeks). Hoping he makes a full recovery; hate to see a young career cut short.

The last NHL Wheel of Punishment was such a success, the NHL offices have decided to do it again. Unfortunately, the second round of NHL Wheel of Punishment involves another Bruin, this time Zdeno Chara. Let's shoot things over the Colin Campbell, take it away Colin!

We had the Viewing Party last night so we don't have our usual recap for this morning. We're all woke up this morning and threw back some Excedrin.

Let's face it, last night's game sucked. From the Bruins play to Chara's brutal hit on Pacioretty, the game was a downer. 

Can't say we're surprised though. For Montreal it was a playoff intensity game and a chance at redemption for last month's beatdown; for Boston it was just a regular ol' season game. You could see the intensity level difference from the get-go.

Some Habs fan sent us this email during the game:



This Habs fan is so classy he thought of shooting us an email instead of worrying about Pacioretty. What a 'tard. Glad he's classy enough to make jokes when a young kid's life is on the line. What a joke.

Bruins still leading the Habs in the standings anyways, so we feel pretty good about Boston. We like our "Bruins suckholes" quite a lot actually. Thanks for asking.

Also amused that he first thought of us. We're in their heads.

Not many highlights for Boston. Habs brought up some AHLer specifically for fighting and he jumped Boychuk after Johnny's attempted hit on Subban. Whatshisface worked Boychuk over pretty good. Few hits I thought would knock Johnny down but it seemed to only make him angrier. He kept trying to throw those sweet Boychupercuts even if he had no room for it. Sweet bout over all.

I am sporting a mean hangover right now. I'm not sure if it was the large beers or the multiple whiskey shots, but when I woke up this morning I felt like a midget was bashing my head in with a ball peen hammer. The thing is though, I wouldn't have traded it in for the world. Last night was the Boston Sports Then & Now/Days of Y'Orr Bruins viewing party and I finally met all of you I've been talking to on Twitter for a long time. When the game got out of hand, so did we as the whiskey and beer started flowing heavily.

Also, we're fucking champs!

First off, we're hoping Max Pacioretty is fine. We love hard hits and people getting smushed in the glass, but we prefer Boston opponents to leave the game with bumps and bruises and not on a stretcher. 

As for the hit itself -- and we're trying to put out Boston bias aside -- we think the hit was clean but quite unfortunate. Chara finishes his check like any player would do; it just so happens that that the check started and ended, alas, at the part of the bench right by the Habs runway and that awkward pane of glass. How many times do we see a hit like that happen by the bench and the guy gets dumped into the bench and everyone goes nuts and cheers? It's bad luck that he went into the turnbuckle instead. That hit happens anywhere else in the arena and it's a plain ol' glass smush. Sadly, it was more like a guillotine. 

And people who think Chara dilberately did that hit with intent to injure have no idea the type of player Chara is or the culture in the Bruins locker room. No one in the league is more sensitive to concussions than Boston (we defy you to find another team); to think the Bruins captain would try to decapitate a guy's head on the glass is retarded.

With all that said the interference call was solid by the refs. Ejecting Chara may have been for his own safety. No way Habs fans let him leave without lighting him on fire.
