Who's interested in a Boston Bruins Tweet Up w/DOY & BST&N

Written by Justin on .

Boston Bruins Tweet UpOur buddy Joe Gill over at Boston Sports Then & Now and founder of the Boston Sports Blogapolooza recent approached us with an idea:

A Boston Bruins Tweet Up

We're intrigued and we're hoping to throw something together with him, regardless of how casual of an event it is.

Question we have for all you readers is this:

1) Are you interested?

2) We're thinking somewhere in Boston... any pub ideas that's good for Bruins watching?

3) Which game would you prefer for this...

Bruins vs. Senators (Fri. 2/18) -- "Chris Neil Hate Night"

or

Bruins vs. Oilers (Sun. 2/27) -- "Hall vs. Seguin"

Where's the D-eef? Bruins Lose.

Written by Jon on .

Just one of those games. Bruins never quite seemed in it mentally. The defense abandoned Rask from the start and it was all down hill from there. Eventually Buffalo started converting all the chances they were given.

It was a home game and Rask was in net so maybe we should've seen this coming. But the Bruins are coming off big wins against top teams in the Eastern Conference and a home and home against Carolina. They crapped themselves tonight and were still in it most of the game. We'll see how they respond Saturday against a good Colorado team.

After the jump.... Bruins hate playing defense and Buffalo fans are dumb. Really, really dumb........

Game Day Preview: Sabres vs. Bruins...The Crying Game

Written by Robb on .

Game Day: Buffalo Sabres vs. Boston Bruins 1/19/11
Oh, hello old friends! No hard feelings, right?

This is going to mark the fifth game between the Bruins and the Sabres and will be a tiebreaker of sorts.  Boston won the first two meetings, whereas Buffalo took that last two, including that exercise in retardery back on January 1st (much like Jack Edwards, we enjoy making up our own words).

Both teams will be entering the game with momentum.  The Sabres just beat out the Canadiens in OT on Tuesday, and the Bruins did some terrible things to Carolina earlier this week. Both teams will be entering the game with momentum.  The Sabres just beat out the Canadiens in OT on Tuesday, and the Bruins did some terrible things to Carolina earlier this week.

In case you haven't heard, Drew "thorn in our side" Stafford will not be playing today.  We're not claiming to know anything about it, but if you read our last Buffalo recap, you'd know the Patrice Purrgeron had plans for our young friend.

That's right, no hat tricks for you mother fucker!  Stafford is sitting out with a sore groin, the jokes write themselves.

Dear Buffalo.... We're Sorry.....

Written by Jon on .

There is something that has weighed heavily on the hearts of the entire Days of Y'Orr staff.

After a December Sabres-Bruins game, we went on Twitter and message boards and saw all the Sabres fans whining and crying... even though the Sabres won. We were baffled. So for our recap, we didn't even cover the game and just made fun of Buffalo. Ryan Miller. Lindy Ruff. Patrick Kaleta. The city itself. No one was safe. It was too easy. Sabres fans began sending us hate mail.

One guy even told us that if we ever step foot in the city of Buffalo that we are "fucking dead! DEAD!" Not sure if he's aware those kind of threats are illegal, but we're cool guys so we let it go.

Then Buffalo fans started bitching about how Chara sucked for starting stuff with Miller after the game. Then Justin wrote an ironic post, breaking down the after game scrum frame by frame to show it was actually Miller that started with Chara. The Buffalo fans didn't see the irony and called us whiners. Then we called them inbred idiots. We even got into a Twitter battle with some 40 year old dude who wouldn't stop typing "LOL" and talking like a teenage girl. Then we called him a pedophile. Patrice Purrgeron felt so awful he made a card for Buffalo.

That was mean of us Buffalo. We feel like we really screwed up a chance at a good relationship with the city and the Sabres. So today we would like to make amends and offer an olive branch in hopes our friendship can be salvaged.

After the jump, Days of Y'Orr apologizes for all the things we've said and discusses how awesome the Sabres are....

Grinding Gears: WTF Powerplay?

Written by Greg on .

Grinding Gears: Boston Bruins lackluster play Welcome to the third edition of Grinding Gears. Last week Angry Bruins Fan, Greg, went on a rant about the Bruins lack luster play. Apparently they listened to him because they've been on fire. This week, Greg talks about the Bruins powerplay and thinks that if you think Thomas sucks, you should go drink bleach.

For more Greg, follow him on Twitter @Pez5611 and read this other blog, Angry Bruins Fan.

Please note: This was written before the Bruins away game at Carolina. If something should happen in Carolina that proves my points to be invalid, suck it.

You know what is really pissing me off this past week with the Bruins? Surprisingly...nothing. Since the debacle in Montreal, the Bruins have been playing some sound hockey. The team is 4-1 since blowing a 2-0 lead at the Bell Center and although not all of the pieces have been polished (see: defense), the machine is running very well.

It is obvious that there are a few things that need to be addressed but I wouldn't necessarily say I'm pissed off about them. The first is the power play. It's painfully obvious that the Bruins power play is deficient in most areas. There seems to be little cohesion when the team is on the man advantage. Sometimes they'll get it and score but most of the time the penalty is killed by the opponent and life goes on. It's frustrating that the power play is so bad given the amount of talent on this team.

For the season the Bruins are 17.6% successful on the power play. That leaves them at 19th in the NHL, which is rather consistent if you look at where they were at the end of last year (16/6% success, good for 23rd overall). During this five game stretch were Boston posted a 4-1 record, they went 5 for 23 on the power play (21.7% on the power play) which is above their season average, but still not great. Game by game they look like this:

After the jump.... Greg breaks down recent powerplay struggles and discusses how the B's need to tighten their defense......

In Thomas, We Trust. Bruins Win.

Written by Jon on .

Bruins are just rolling right now. Tim Thomas is out of this world. We feel like we're running out of things to say about him. If the season ended today, the Vezina conversation would be Tim Thomas, Tim Thomas and Tim Thomas. And how can you not talk about Thomas for MVP.

Carolina came out with revenge on their minds. They started slow and then took it to the Bruins. In the second period the Bruins had no answer for the Hurricanes. Tim Thomas did. He stood tall. He went nuts. He hold the Hurricanes to bring it. Then he hulked up.

The kids continue to contribute. Tonight it was Kampfer and Marchand again. Marchand got his 10th of the season. Kampfer's efforts led to Lucic's game winner and he made several fantastic defensive stops. Bruins continue to show what they didn't for most of December... when they want to be, they are one of the better teams in the league. When they don't want to be, Thomas can usually do enough to bail them out. Tonight was no different.

After the jump, Carolina sucks, Tim Thomas is awesome and Tim Thomas is really awesome.....

Game Day: Bruins vs. Hurricanes: Round 2

Written by Jon on .

The Bruins haven't played the Hurricanes since... yesterday. Yeah.

Yesterday the Bruins were busy putting up more touchdowns against the Hurricanes than the Pats against the Jets. Okay, slight exaggeration.

Seven goals. Chara had three of them. It was raining hats at the TD Garden.

Apparently some Carolina players were pissed the Bruins were still playing their balls off after going up by 7 goals. Waaaaaaaaaaah. If you don't like it then stop them. This ain't pee wee hockey. If some team puts up ten goals against the Bruins we're not gonna get pissed at the other team for driving up the score, we'd get pissed at the Bruins for allowing ten goals. Shut up Carolina.

still_hate_lincoln
Pic not ours. Done by a Pensblog reader. We wish we had thought of it. Carolina sucks.

Ference is still injured. According to Julien, Ference could go if the team was desperate and needed him but they're not right now so Ference is likely out.

Most of Carolina is out with bruised egos.

After the jump... Carolina perhaps looking for revenge, Justin Peters really, really sucks and Carolina is full of hicks.....

Peeeeeters. Chara, Bruins Destroy Hurricanes.

Written by Jon on .

Wow. Bruins are taking this whole "we can be super good when we want to be" thing seriously. In nine January games the Bruins have scored 36 goals. They have scored six or more goals in four of those games. They're 4-1-0 in their last five games and still looked great in their loss to Pittsburgh. The consistently inconsistent Bruins seem to have gone into hibernation for a bit and the f up your shit Bruins from October seem to have re-emerged.

The most impressive part? They're doing all this without getting much help from their "top line."

Bergeron is ruining lives left and right. Goalies are having nightmares about him. Tim Thomas is getting shutouts and making it look easy. The kids like Marchand, Kampfer and Seguin are contributing more and more. Chara is responding to fans and media questioning his commitment. There's a long way to go, but the Bruins are on the right path.

Their domination continued against the Hurricanes. After pulling Cam Ward after he let up two goal son five shots, Justin Peters entered the Hurricanes net and put on a clinic on "fastest ways to get sent back to the AHL." Kind of hilarious. The Hurricanes were never really in the game. Hurricanes aren't exactly the class of the East but they're not terrible. And the Bruins just tore them apart. Awesome.

After the jump..... Thomas is better than you, Chara's favorite band is Thrice and Bergeron continues to be a beast......
