Hockey Resurrection Party

More great news, folks.

Earlier in the week we announced Shawn Thornton would be making a special guest appearance at the Hockey Resurrection Party. We can now announce that Garden Legend Rene Rancourt, former Bruin Lyndon Byers, and MIke Callahan will also be attending our event at the Harp to help kick off the 2013 Bruins Season. Count us as super-stoked.

Rene will be kicking things off with the National Anthem, and will be debuting a new t-shirt in partnership with SupahFans Streetwear. From SupahFans:

SupahFans Streetwear and The TD Garden's Boston Bruins' National Anthem singer Rene Rancourt have partnered to design and sell a new officially licensed "Rene Rancourt Tuxedo T-shirt" with his famous silhouetted fist pump and facsimiled Rene Rancourt signature.

Rene Rancourt is eager to welcome hockey fans back this Thursday January 17th opening a free "Hockey Resurrection" party by singing the National Anthem at 7 pm at The Harp, a Causeway Street fixture. SupahFans Streetwear is making its first batch of "Rene Rancourt Tuxedo T-shirts" available for purchase at its Harp apparel booth that night.  Additionally, former Bruins tough guy Lyndon Byers and current enforcer Shawn Thornton are in attendance.  Bruins hockey fans at The Harp can also expect complimentary food, prizes, a silent auction and a SupahFans competition for Boston's best hockey fans.

Although, the 21+ "Hockey Resurrection" event is free, a capacity crowd is expected and fans may only secure entrance through an RSVP on The Harp's calendar web page here:

The t-shirt will be $15 for people attending Hockey Resurrection, or $18 online.

Peace Offerings: What NHL Teams are Offering to Entice Fans Back

Written by Justin on .

Bruins fans

During the lockout we wrote a post on what the different NHL teams were offering season ticket holders as an apology for the Lockout. Now that the lockout is over, teams are sending out different offers and deals as an "apology" in hopes of enticing fans back, filling their arenas and wallets.

We'll keep updating this list as more teams send out offers. If you know of something a team is offering and you don't see it here, shoot us an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. Bobby Orr Hated The Lockout

Written by Greg Ezell on .

Orr

Joe Haggerty at CSNNE.com posted an article this morning about Bobby Orr and his thoughts on the NHL lockout. He was pretty candid when it came to his thoughts on the lockout, but one part really stuck out to me:

“How do you pick winners in something like this? You can’t pick any winners and losers in something like this. Everybody lost.”

Fucking eh, Bobby is right. This comment is also coming off of the backs of Gary Bettman and the NHL owners, who held a press conference yesterday to officially announce that the NHL is going to return. They also apologized to the fans for the NHL lockout, which is a complete lie because they aren't sorry. If they were truly sorry, they would have discussed the upcoming CBA during the season last year and not in July, when they made their first piece of shit proposal.

I dont have the energy or the testical fortitude to tackle why Gary Bettman and Jeremy Jacobs stood in front of media and fans and blatanly lied to their faces. I just don't have it in me today. In the words of Sweet Brown:

aint nobody got time for that gif

It's true though, we don't have time for that. The only thing we reallyhave time for is January 19, 2013 when the Bruins open up their season at home against the Rangers, a team many are predicting to win the Stanley Cup. It'll be a good test to see where Boston is because the Rangers have added some talent to their roster.

Either way, Bobby was right. Everyone lost when it came to the NHL lockout. Unfortunately, we (the fans) were the biggest losers of them all and we will just come back for more.

Mark your calendars: Bruins home opener against Rangers, 1/19

Written by Justin on .

Bruins Rangers 2013 season opener

Good news, everyone! The NHL has told the Boston Bruins their season opener will also be their home opener. They'll face the NY Rangers on Saturday, January 19th, a likely 7pm start.

And according to Fluto, the Bruins could play a few games at the Garden to start the season:

It’s possible the Bruins could begin the season with a multigame homestand. The Celtics will not play at home until Jan. 24. The Bruins were originally scheduled to play Toronto Jan. 21. That matchup could stay the same in the revised 48-game schedule.

And expect hockey season to run a lot deeper than usual (that's what she said). From the Globe & Mail:

The regular season is set to end at the beginning of May, and the last playoff game could be played on June 25th under the scheduling being considered by the league.

The rest of the 2013 schedule is expected to be released this weekend.

As a reminder, we're helping to throw a Hockey Resurrection party to celebrate the end of hockery and beginning of hockey. It's at the Harp on January 17th from 7-10pm. And it's FREE, suckas. Hope to see you all there. Register at Eventbrite.

Video: Jacobs apologizes for NHL Lockout but is still a giant prick

Written by Justin on .

Jeremy Jacobs Scrooge McDuck

Here's video of Jeremy Jacobs apologizing for the NHL Lockout.

Actually, this is what he said. The video on NHL.com isn't working

"On behalf of the National Hockey League's Board of Governors, I am pleased to report that today we unanimously voted to ratify a new Collective Bargaining Agreement with the National Hockey League Players' Association. Which means, to our fans all around the globe, hockey is back.

This great game has been gone for far too long, and for that we are truly sorry.

The Board today also expressed its appreciation for the professionalism and commitment, to our clubs and to the sport, that Commissioner Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Daly displayed throughout this difficult period. Gary, Bill and their staff worked tirelessly from long before the lockout began in an effort to reach a constructive conclusion. Gary and Bill have the complete and unconditional support of the Board – and our gratitude.

As our League moves toward what we know will be a period of growth for the sport, and a time of great excitement and entertainment for our fans, I would add the appreciation of the Board for the dedication the players showed during the negotiating process – and for their role in securing an agreement that will move the National Hockey League forward in the years ahead. There’s no doubt we all love this game.

Together our collective future is extremely bright.

Our only interest now is to look ahead and to focus on what this great game can provide to the best sports fans in the world."

Tales from Europe: Seguin's filthy apartment & Boychuk coked up on Red Bull

Written by Justin on .

Tales from Europe

Now that the lockout is over and the Bruins are returning to stateside, a lot of fun or otherwise interesting tales of their European adventures are coming to light.

Such as the fact that Johnny Boychuk's team, EC Red Bull Salzburg, only gave its players Red Bull to drink. No water. No Gatorade. Just fucking gross Red Bull.

Makes sense that there'd be Red Bull in the locker room since it's the main sponsor, but no water or Gatorade? Seriously? How do you not drop dead on the ice?

Also, is there anything scarier than Johnny Boychuk coked up on Red Bull? Does his slapshots turn the puck into pure energy upon release?

Meanwhile, Chara is jealous his team wasn't sponsored by Coca-Cola.

Also, we learned -- thanks to Deadspin and some really mouthy cleaners -- that Tyler Seguin had a dirty apartment. Like a really dirty apartment. Or as the rest of us call it -- being a 20 y/o bachelor.

From Deadspin (translated from The Local):

"The parquet floor was littered with coins worth 220 francs [$238]," Blick reported.

Coca-cola bottles, garbage and dirty linen lay scattered across the floor, while rotten bananas were left on a table, the newspaper said.

The bathroom was a shambles and the cleaning company spent a full day tidying the apartment.

In December, when Seguin returned to America, the staff were met with a similar stiff challenge.

Blick said the hockey player was "not versed in appliances" and as a result tried to wash his clothes in the dryer.

"He also did not know how to operate the dishwasher . . . when he ran out of clean plates, glasses and cutlery, he bought plastic tableware."

Marc Lüpold, the managing director of the cleaning company, was diplomatic about the revelations.

"You could tell it was the first time a young, single man had an apartment," Lüpold told Blick.

Apparently this is news because no 20-year-old male who's living on his own for the first time has ever had a dirty apartment. Ever. Never happens. We're all super clean neat freaks from the moment we live the nest and go out into the world on our own.

We feel bad that Seguin tipped these guys $200 and then they went and talked about how dirty he is. Jerks.

We did love this line though:

Blick said the hockey player was "not versed in appliances" and as a result tried to wash his clothes in the dryer.

Five Predictions For The (Shortened) 2013 Boston Bruins Season

Written by Greg Ezell on .

sniper

It felt like forever since I last wrote this article. We've been through a lot since I wrote this last year, but let's first take a look at last year's predictions.

  1. Tuukka Rask will finish the year as the starting goal tender
  2. Zdeno Chara wins the Norris
  3. Tyler Seguin scores 25+ goals this year
  4. Milan Lucic DOES NOT score 20+ goals this year
  5. Bruins win the East with 103 points

Well, I ended the year with one absolute prediction. Seguin scored 29 goals last year, leading the Bruins in that category. I was close on Chara winning the Norris as he was nominated (and debatable should have won) and the Bruins finished second in the East with 102 points. I was off on the Rask one and the Lucic one as well. Rask didn't end the year as the starting goalie and Lucic scored 26 goals, so 1-2-2. I'm the Columbus Blue Jackets of predictions. So lets take a shot at five new predictions for this shortened, 48 game season:

After the jump, my predictions...

"Are You Excited Yet?"

Written by Greg Ezell on .

There's a lot of people who aren't excited that the NHL is going to being in about 10 days. Look, I get it. You're soured that millionaires and millionaires are fighting for billions of dollars. I'm not here to put you down because in a sense, I'm still pissed to. Eventually there's two paths to go down:

  1. Watch NHL hockey
  2. Don't watch NHL hockey

It's as simple as that. If you're reading this and you're in the category of #1, this post probably isn't for you (actually, it is). This is for the fan who is either on the fence about the NHL or has already told themselves that they're finished with black and gold Boston hockey. I wanted to know if you guys are truly done with the NHL or if you just need a spark to get excited again.

If you're truly done with the NHL than that's your choice and its one that people can accept. This is the only one of the "major" sports in the United States/Canada that have been through 3 lockouts in the past 15 years. It's a hard sport to wrap your head around because you get so interested and invested and they rip it away from you because of money.

So I'm going to run a small series of posts called "Are You Excited Yet?" in hopes that I can help re-ignite the hockey spark inside of you.

With the Bruins potentially opening up the season on the road in the Bell Centre against the Canadiens on January 19th, let's take a trip back to the the TD Garden on February 9, 2011.

God damn that felt good.
