VIDEO: Early American history according to Jack Edwards

Written by Justin on .

Jack Edwards Montreal rant
Listening to VERSUS verbally fellate JVR was painful to listen to last night, especially since Thomas was putting on a clinic and no one in the VERSUS booth seemed to notice (or care). Lame.

Anyways, it made us yearn (oddly enough) for Jack Edwards and his crazy rants. He might be an insane lunatic , but he's our insane lunatic.

Someone had the brilliant idea of taking his Canadien Royalty speech after Game 7 and turn it into a video.

Huge props to Houses of the Hockey for this. Be sure to check our their post to get their take. Add a comment

The Secret Affair Between James van Riemsdyk and Versus: A Patrice Purrgeron exclusive

Written by Patrice Purrgeron on .

purrgeron
Patrice Purrgeron here with an eye in the sky and an ear to the ground looking to keep the readers of Days of Y'Orr informed with any and all information. Ah Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, the birthplace of freedom, cheese steaks and throwing batteries at athletes. Only in a city where a fake athlete is king will the citizens boo a magical person like Santa Clause but cheer for Charles Barkley and Mike Vick. After watching the television love affair between one James van Riemsdyk and Versus, I flew to Philadelphia to track down the couple to get an interview to find out what was going on. The readers of this website need to be informed and who am I to deny them of this information?

My trip first began at the Logan International Airport where I was greeted by the lovely people of TSA. At first, I had no issues with these lovely chaps until they asked me where I was going. Once I mentioned Philadelphia, their disgusted and horrified looks said it all. I stepped through the metal detector, which went off because of my highly stylish collar that I forgot to take off. Once the alarm went off, I was surrounded by five or six TSA members asking multiple questions. I felt violated, but not before the TSA member said it was time for a pat down.

TSA pat down
Once the pat down was over and I felt violated, the TSA official looked at me and said "This is nothing compared to Philadelphia." Foreshadowing? Possibly.

After the jump, is it always sunny in Philadelphia? Purrgeron finds out...

Philadelphia realizes it sucks; tries to be more like Boston

Written by Justin on .

Philadelphia has finally realized how crummy it is. It's most popular sub can be made by a six-year-old and it's greatest athlete isn't even real.

So it's really no surprise that Filthadelphia has decided to rework it's image and what better city to copy than Boston?

First, Philadelphia threw a tea party today, a la Boston 1773 style.

They even printed shirts to memorate the occasion!

Shit. Can you imagine the colonialists comemorating the original tea party with customized puffy shirts, snuff boxes or powder wigs? Awesome.

The Game 2 shirts also has Boston written all over it.

The anti-Flyers Thumbs Down t-shirt is like 100x cooler than this.

We approve of the Jayne hat the guy in the back left is wearing though.

Flyers fans, like our Bogluin brethren Flyers Goal Scored By, aren't stoked by the Boston-feel events and give aways the Flyers are doing.

Game Day Preview: Bruins @ Flyers: Game 2

Written by Greg on .

carillobaby

If someone was going to tell me that the Bruins would score seven goals in one game against the Flyers, I probably would have laughed at them. This is the same team that had a lot of trouble shooting the puck on Carey Price, let alone putting the puck behind him. If the same person finished that sentence with "...and the Bruins still wouldn't score on the power play." I would have just nodded and sighed because the power play is still an atrocity.

Well the Bruins looked really good on Saturday while the Flyers looked really bad. What's that mean? It means Boston probably played as good as it can while the Flyers weren't even close. I think we won't see another 7-3 victory anytime soon. I think we'll see more 4-3, 3-2 games, but Philly's goaltending is suspect. Finally, a team that has really avoided getting a goalie for the past 10 years has their ass bitten by the problem. Saturday showed that the most vulnerable position for the Flyers is between the pipes and for Boston to continue winning, they need to keep shooting the puck. Doing this extra pass bullshit isn't going to cut it because the Flyers goaltending isn't good. You don't need to get the goalie moving laterally because Boucher is liable to give up huge rebounds. Two of the five goals he let in were directly related to rebounds, something the Canadiens capitalized early on in round one against Tim Thomas.

I would expect much of the same from the Bruins tonight. The Bruins need to continually attack the net. If they are able to garner some traffic in front of either Boucher or Bobrovski then put shots on net and clean up rebounds, they have a fighting chance. Right now the Philadelphia defense is vulnerable, especially with Chris Pronger still healing from his right wrist/hand injury. Saturday Boston took a big lead and never lifted their foot from the gas pedal and didn't allow the Flyers to come back in the game. They brought their A game and stuck to a plan which worked out.

Wait, you mean if you go up big and still attack a team, you can win hockey games? I'm astonished!

moshmont

The power play still looks dreadful but the Philadelphia power play doesn't look any better, which is a good thing. At least when Philly goes up a man, the Bruins will have an easier time killing it off than they did against the Canadiens. Every time Montreal went on the power play, you knew a goal was coming out of it. When Philly goes on the power play, its really a craps shoot, which is nice.

Boston is in control so far in this series. If they're able to win Game 2 and go back home it will put them in a good position, but we've seen this movie before. I know that last year is different but it still happened. This Bruins team is definitely different but that series should always linger in the back of the mind of the fans. It was crushing man and I don't think I could deal with that again.

If the Bruins go up 2-0, at least Philly still has their women.

Nation of Domination. Bruins Take Game 1

Written by Jon on .

We didn't know what to expect from the Bruins coming off a physically and emotionally draining seven game series against their ultimate rivals. The Bruins team that started that series looked like a one and done team. The team that finished that series was a gritty, unified, do what it takes to win team (you know, other than scoring on the powerplay).

The team that finished that Montreal series started the series against the Flyers... with a boost.

Cancel those missing perons reports on David Krejci and Milan Lucic.  Krejci was a demon. He was so good in fact the Flyers resorted to cheap shots to try to stop him. He is going to take a beating this series and he knows it.

The game wasn't all pretty. Things started to slip away a bit in the third and you were even more pumped that the Bruins had built such a big lead. Then something happened and you felt a lot better about these Bruins. They responded. Mike Richards goal in the third had given the Flyers new life. Then everyone's favorite pest and super rookie Brad Marchand snuffed it out and Gregory Campbell kicked home the extra point and the Bruins took game one in dominating fashion.

The Bruins haven't seen the best of the Flyers. We're not naive enough to think the series is going to be this easy. But at worst the Bruins are coming home with the series tied. We'll take that any day.

After the jump.... Krejci wakes up, Marchand is still a beast and Tim Thomas is inhuman.....

Bruins vs Flyers: Stanley Cup Semifinals. Game 1

Written by Robb on .

Here we go! The start of a series that most people have been hoping for all season. We already discussed the different details of how the teams match up in the series preview so we wont bore you by going into it all again.

As glad as we are about this match up, there are some mixed emotions, mostly stemming from the fans/media.  We all know what happened last year. and it really doesn't need to be brought up or analyzed and more than it has, but expect to hear about it... a lot.  Even if the Bruins pull ahead in the series, there is going to be that asshole that say "Don't get too excited, they were ahead last year too".  There is no stopping it, but there are a few things that can be done to make it more bearable:

1. Set an over under and start betting on it.  Just make sure to set it high enough, probably between 100-200 per game.

2. Turn it into a drinking game.  This is something I'd caution against unless have a VERY strong liver or enjoy the finer points of alcohol poisoning.

3. Spend the whole series with your TV muted, the radio off, your computer off, and in a locked room with no windows (or some sort of cave) in a vain attempt to avoid hearing about it all together.

4. Promptly punch anyone in the face who brings it up, that'll teach the bastards.

One thing about this series that's going to make it more enjoyable than the Montreal though...far fewer online debates over who the "classier" team is.

PREVIEW: Redemption Tour continues through Filthadelphia

Written by Justin on .

Thanks to some heroics by Nathan Horton, the 2011 Boston Bruins "Redemption Tour" is continuing it's way through Filthadelphia.

We all remember what happened last year. No need to bring up the past. It's there. It happened. It'll be back in the players minds but more as fuel than a hinderance. We've been asked if we think there's any fear or trepidation facing the Flyers because of last year. Our response: No.

We're looking forward to it.

We said back before the playoffs started that if the Bruins are to win the Cup this year it had to go through Montreal -- beating the Habs on the way to the Cup adds a little extra something sweet to the dish -- and it had to go through Philly -- to make up for that travestyfuck from last year.

This should be a good series. Two teams that play hard, hit hard and play gritty. A little bit more power and less finesse.

April 30 @ Philly 3:00
May 2 @ Philly 7:30
May 4 in Boston 7:00
May 6 in Boston 8:00
May 8 @ Philly (if needed) 3:00
May 10 in Boston (if needed) TBD
May 12 @ Philly (if needed)  TBD

Great schedule. Love that the games are every other day. Fuck you, Lady GaGa.

Not sure who made that graphic. Found it on Facebook. Brierre and Richards jokes never get old.

After the jump... more series preview stuff

Get your anti-Flyers Thumbs Down t-shirts

Written by Justin on .

From the creators of the Habs 911 t-shirt presents:

We'll see how long this one lasts before the NHL shits its pants again.

Though there's a better chance this shirt survives the series. Philidelphia has a bit better sense of humor than Montreal, but we're pretty sure a corpse has a better sense of humor than the Habs organization.

Same deal as before. Swing by the Bottom Line Appearal store and order one of these shirts for $15. In the "Add special instructions" line type in YORR. We do get a little piece of the profts, so help fill our "Bloggers that want to move out of their mom's basement" fund by giving us credit.

Rob says he'll have the shirts by Tuesday so pre-orders should arrive by Weds by noon for those going to Game 3 in Boston.
