Montreal got Rexrolled

Written by Justin on .

Second best thing about last night's molestation was Recchi's post game comments, claiming his quotes about Montreal organization "embellished" the Pacioretty injury reports were to take heat off Chara.

Well obviously, yea. I mean when there's an injury that -- he obviously has a fractured vertebrae but the concussion was obviously really a non-factor, maybe a day or two. Maybe a day or two he felt it and then he was fine a couple of days later. I believe, yea, [Montreal] was trying to get Zdeno suspended and they embellished it a little bit and you know they're trying to do what they could to get him suspended and I think the league sent a message that it was a hockey play and that's the important thing.

Habs fans, media and players started cracking "He's old and senile" jokes instantly. Y'know, original stuff.

Ended up the joke was on Montreal.

From The Boston Globe:

"Well, I have to be honest with you guys, I wanted to take the heat off Zee for a day,'' Recchi told reporters afterward. "I'm a big boy. And I think anyone who knows me, knows that I have great respect for the Montreal organization. I played five years there. I have great respect for Doctor [David] Mulder, the medical staff there.

"I had five great years there,'' Recchi said of his time in Montreal. "I took the pressure off Zee. In 22 years, I've respected all my teammates, all the players I play against. My record has shown that. For 22 years. I just took the pressure off Zee for one day, I'm a big boy, I can handle that.''

Respect your elders. Veteran move by a leader in the locker room.

Joe Haggerty predicted Recchi's motive pretty much right after the radio interview happened. Everyone else had their heads too far up their ass to look behind the veil. Love it.

Recchi is clearly the Cerebral Assassin.

Coming as no surprise, Montreal fans didn't enjoy Recchi's gamesmanship. Clearly an act of a goon and thug.

What they do like is polite conversations over a cup of tea, puff ties, whining and roasting marshmellows over open car fires.

They're just pissed they all got Rickrolled by the old and senile Mark Recchi.

Touchdown!! Chara, Horton Punt Habs!

Written by Days of Y'Orr on .

Thanks goes to Days of Y'Orr reader Dan (@bruinshockeynow) for the title idea!

Before getting into this... a very Happy Birthday to Jack Edwards!  Love him or hate him, he's a big part of the Boston Bruins and the Bruins gave both him and us a big present tonight.

Guy brought his goddman A-game to NESN last night.

And just wow...taking out all of the drama there was going into this game, the Bruins needed to take two points away from this game to really solidify their place in the East.  And they did.  With gusto! You could feel the energy in Boston all day. The city and the fans were in Playoff Mode for the game. Got us excited to think about the actual playoffs.

As expected, no Habs player had the balls to sacrifice himself in a retribution fight with Chara. Habs fans wanted to see Boston "play hockey" and not fight. Well, they got what they asked for.

Get ready to suck it long and hard, Montreal...

After the jump, we look at a rape worse than that scene in American History X...

Game Day Preview: Canadiens vs. Boston

"The times, they are a changing" - Bob Dylan

Ever since the Chara/Pacioretty incident on March 8, 2011, life as we know it changed. For the Boston Bruins, they quickly became the NHL's #1 villian. Players who had zero involvement felt it was their time to speak up on the issue. Guys like Joe Thornton accused the NHL of giving Boston preferential treatment. Boston was labeled a hate filled town who bathed in the blood of Max Pacioretty, Donald Brashear and any other player succumbed to injury at the hand of a Boston Bruin. The team was hated, sneared at and mocked wherever they went. Through it all, the city of Boston told their citizens and their team to keep on fighting, that nothing said or done could break the spirit of being a Bruin. We, as fans, knew the team needed us and we came to their aid like a mother would tend to her wounded child. They needed us and we needed them.

After the jump, we look at how Montreal has changed because of this incident...

SIGN: Somebody Call 911

Written by Justin on .

Not gonna lie. We're stoked for tomorrow night's game. Also, a bear shits in the woods, right? We don't think it'll be a bloodbath like some people are hoping/predicting, but the opportunities for both sides to get some good digs and chants are limitless.

We've got one for Bruins fans to run with, compliments of DOY friend Victoria:

Love it. We're willing to extend this idea to any big hits tomorrow night.

And, because it's how we do things, we've taken it a step further and created some "Somebody Call 911" signs for you to download. It'll fit on your standard 8x11 paper. Full-size download links after the image.

This would be right up there with "Thank You, Kessel." Make it happen, Boston.

Prediciton: If this chant happens and Montreal fans flood twitter with "Bruins fans are classless" tweets. Mark it. Add a comment

Mark Recchi 'Unplugged': Montreal 'embellished it a little bit'

Written by Justin on .

Mark Recchi: Montreal embellished Chara hit, Pacioretty injuries
In case you missed Felger and Mazz this afternoon, Mark Recchi had some interesting words on the whole Max Pacioretty getting a fractured neck and severe concussion. Audio is here but here's what he said:

We're very thankful that he is OK and he's getting better. We know he was twittering at a movie four days later or five days later. Obviously if you had a concussion, a bad concussion like they said, you're not gonna be in a movie. So, we're glad in that sense in that he's getting better but it was a hockey play and an injury happened.

Felger: Let me be more direct. Does it bother you that [Montreal] embellished [Pacioretty's injuries] obviously?

Well obviously, yea. I mean when there's an injury that -- he obviously has a fractured vertebrae but the concussion was obviously really a non-factor, maybe a day or two. Maybe a day or two he felt it and then he was fine a couple of days later. I believe, yea, [Montreal] was trying to get Zdeno suspended and they embellished it a little bit and you know they're trying to do what they could to get him suspended and I think the league sent a message that it was a hockey play and that's the important thing.

That's the thing people have to understand. If they deemed it something that was serious -- I mean they just suspended Matt Cooke for up to 17 games for a head shot -- they're serious about protecting players right now. [Chara's hit] was an interference play at worse and  you know, the partitions got in the way. I don't think Zdeno's to blame for that, obviously; the league found that and we don't feel as players it is. I've been people run into the turnbuckle maybe over 40 times in my career. As a winger, that's the risk you take when you go along the boards like that -- you get hit into those. You're playing the game and it happens and what are you going to do?

Praise him or crucify him if you will, but Rex said nothing no one else was thinking when Pac gave his first interview a day or two after the hit and then was at the movies a few days after that. We didn't hear or see Bergy or Savard for weeks after they got their severe concussion. Pac must be part of the Weapon X program.

Also, it makes perfect sense that a team rooted in diving and drawing phantom calls would try to embellish an injury report. It was a good attempt by Montreal to get one of the best defensemen out for a few games during a tight playoff race. Gamemanship, if you will.

Everyone was thinking it; Recchi just said it.  Add a comment

Grindin' Gears: All Over The Place Edition

Written by Greg on .

grindin gears If you want more of my Bruins related goodness - follow me on Twitter. (@PezDOY)

God damnit. God fucking damnit. I would like to say good morning to everyone and it might be the only good thing I say this entire article. Before I go off on my tangent, I      want to talk about the pathetic display some Bruins fans put on during the Peter Chiarelli/Season Ticket Holder press conference. I listened to some of it and read live tweets by HBAdventure and guy337 and some of the shit I read made me want to throw up my lunch. The best one of the group was:

Why haven't Bruins won cup yet? Why haven't you made that adjustment yet? Chiarelli: "I want to win a cup as much as anyone."

For all I know, a seven year old asked that question because no hockey fan would ever ask a question like that. Why haven't the Bruins won a Cup yet? Are you fucking serious? Are you watching the god damn game you have season tickets for or are you just ripping them up and throwing them away? First off, why would you ever ask that question? What is your fucking thought process here? Why not call Theo Epstein and say "Oh hey Theo, why haven't you won the World Series in four years"? It's a ridiculous statement. I know that I'm going a little overboard here with my tangent, but that question really bothered me, especially the second part. Why hasn't Chiarelli made adjustments? What adjustments would you like him to make? Trades? I guess Tomas Kaberle, Chris Kelly and Rich Peverley don't count. Who do you want the Bruins to get? Brad Richards? Are you willing to part with Toronto's #1 pick, David Krejci and possibly Michael Ryder for a guy who makes about $7 million dollars and is coming off of a concussion? Sounds reasonable, right? Just because you can win the Stanley Cup in NHL 11 doesn't mean it's an easy task. Sometimes I forget how much we (fanbase) armchair GM but it's something I know I'm going to have to stop doing. You're not an NHL GM, you'll never be an NHL GM so I think it's safe to say that you should be asking an NHL GM such idiotic questions as the one above.

rydercloud
Someone also talked about Michael Ryder getting a contract extension. Come on man, come on. Michael Ryder? You want Michael Ryder on this team longer than his current contract? Are you on drugs, brah? The last thing this Bruins team needs is more Michael Ryder. Ryder isn't the guy we all thought he was going to be when he signed a contract here. He isn't a top six forward, he isn't a hard worker and he barely qualifies as a goal scorer. Instead, the only thing Michael Ryder is, is a floater! I nicknamed him Cloud because all he does it float out there (clever right?).

Okay, I'm done Bruins fans. I didn't mean that. Please give me another chance. If anyone asks, you were hit by a baseball.

After the jump...lets look at the last Bruins' game...

Dream Ruiners. Bruins Win. Big Time.

Written by Jon on .

For the first ten minutes tonight you were probably pissed. B's looked flat and uninspired. All that talk about Julien putting the team through some hard practices and the Bruins turning around their fortunes against a desperate Devils team seemed empty.

The B's looked like they didn't get the memo. Through the first ten minutes Boston had one shot. One. That was all. They couldn't get through the neutral zone. Kovalchuk was allowed to hang out around the net on a powerplay without any Bruins player defending him. Easiest goal of the year for Kovalchuk.

Then the Bruins woke up, apparently angered by their subpar play. They harnessed that energy to dominate the rest of the game. Thomas showed he's not done for the season after so much talk he was coming back down to earth. Chara stepped up and led by example. Seguin showed why he should get extra ice time. Krejci dominated bitches. Lucic joined the 30 goal club.

And we were again wowed by the Bruins potential. Whether or not they can harness that effort and energy and carry it to Thursday's game against the Habs and into the playoffs remains to be seen. We'll find out soon.

For now, our dear Bruins pretty much officially ended the Devils season. They finally rose to the challenge under pressure. Suck it New Jersey.

After the jump..... Thomas is awesome, Chara is awesome, Lucic is awesome and your mom is a hooker.......

Game Day: Devils vs. Bruins -- Slump busters??

Written by Justin on .

New Jersey Devils vs. Boston Bruins

Big week of games for Boston. Devils tonight. Habs on Thurs. Rangers on Saturday. They should feel like playoff intensity games as each team is fighting for a playoff spot. Bruins have looked like ass recently. Claude says the team seems "too comfortable" which makes us scratch our heads. How can a team feel comfortable when playing like shit and when the Habs are a point behind them? Absolutely mindblowing.

Team better show up this week.

Julien also aired his displeasure with Rask airing his displeasure. Via Boston.com:

"I don't support that," Julien said. "And I don't think anybody supports that, including him. Sometimes frustration sets in when you see players breaking their sticks after a goal against. You see them put their heads up in the air after they miss an open net. There's a frustration part. I'm certainly not going to stand here and start accusing him of that. But I think it's something you don't want to see from anybody. It has a big impact on your team. Having said that, I think Tuukka's aware of that. If anything, he's been playing some of his best hockey lately. So I don't think there's any need for that. Sometimes you've got to control your emotions. He's frustrated with the first half of the year and he wants to help this hockey club. Sometimes his emotions run a little too high and he reacts that way. Having said that, it had no influence on my decision on Saturday."

DOY staff supports Rask's outbursts. At least one guy on the ice is showing some emotion. You can say Rask should hold his rage in check, but when your defense has left you out to dry as much as the Bruins have with Tuukka, it's not surprising. Team's built on defense and goaltending but the defense has been lackluster at best. That doesn't bode well for future games if it keeps up.

O Power Play, Where Art Thou?

Written by Greg on .

oppwat
Claude Julien, the 2009 Jack Adams award winner, was hired by the Boston Bruins on June 22, 2007 after the team dismissed Dave Lewis of his duties. Since Julien has taken over, the Bruins have been known for two dominant characteristics: a great defensive system and a shotty power play. Although the defensive system speaks for itself, I'm blown away that the Bruins have had a lackluster power play for so long and have done virtually little to change it.

Let's take a look at goals scored per game and power play success (in percentage) since Julien was announced as the Bruins head coach.

2007-2008 season: 24th in goals per game (2.51), 16th in power play success (17.6%)
2008-2009 season: 2nd in goals per game (3.29), 4th in power play success (23.6%)
2009-2010 season: 30th in goals per game (2.39),  23rd in power play success (16.6%)
2010-2011 season: 5th in goals per game (2.97), 22nd in power play success (16.3%)

So solely based on the numbers above, the power play has only been ranked in the top half of the league once and it took a masterful season to do so. The 2008-2009 season was one of the greatest seasons the Boston Bruins have had in a long time. It was THE season, or so we thought. That notion was later put to the rest when the Bruins forgot to show up against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Lets take a look at some more numbers...

Don't look now...

Bruins are in a late-season tailspin. Habs are a mere one point back on Boston.
Eastern Conference Standings -- Habs one back on Bruins
Biggest worry is the last 10 games column. Habs are playing great hockey; Boston is sucking ass.

Thursday's going to absolutely blow unless Boston decides to not completely unravel this month.

Maybe this is some assbackwards ploy to be on the road more than home during the playoffs.

In other news, Matt Cooke is still a douche on the ice.

Also, it's the 20th anniversary of Ron Tugnett playing his goddam ass off against the Bruins. Seventy saves. Holy shit. Talking about earning your paycheck.

Bourque had 19 shots on the night.  We miss Bourque. We miss the Nordiques. We miss the old Garden. We miss the old school Bruins.  Add a comment
