Mintues after the news broke that Michael Ryder will be taking his talents to the honky tonk hockey town, the Boston Bruins make a signing of their own. They inked (now former) Habs winger Benoit Pouliot to a one year deal worth $1.1 million, according to RDS.
Bs trade one former underperforming Habs player for another.
Some of you might remember Pouliot for his fight with Bruins "tough guy" David Krejci.
Or against Ference 3:16 where Jack Edwards calls him one of the "biggest disappointments in the National Hockey League history" and Brick calls him "gutless."
Gonna be really awkward when camp starts in a couple of months.
His past season numbers:
Pouliot was an absolute no-show against the Bruins this year, so this isn't a case of the Bs signing a Boston-killer by any means.
Our Take: We're not a huge fan of this deal. Not sure why Chiarelli signed him. Our only guess is he's there to put pressure on the other guys fighting for a roster spot. A safety-net signing, if you will.
Or maybe he's there as a punching bag for the guys. Either way, he's not fit to wear the Bruins uniform. He's not Boston Bruins material.
Good news is that it's a one-year deal for relatively little. The kid's young and has some upside. This isn't a huge gamble by Chiarelli and the signing looks a lot better than some of the contracts being thrown around out there today. Add a comment
Reports is that Michael Ryder signed with the Dallas Stars for 2 years 3.5 million/year.
This isn't a huge loss for the Bruins as it gives some younger guys like Caron and Knight a chance to shine and fight for a spot with the big boys. But we are sad that the Knight-Ryder line will never happen now.
We'll remember Ryder mostly for dogging it during the regular season and opening admitting as such.
But we'll also remember Ryder for his huge compete leve in the Montreal series.
Still those two plays don't make up for what he provides, on the whole, all season. We knew someone would overpay for Ryder. Dallas delivered.
Best of luck with the Stars, Rydes. Thanks for the Cup. Add a comment
Wow. What a great fucking plot twist to #JagrWatch. After being a huge cocktease both the Pens and the Red Wings withdraw their offesr to Czech forward.
So what does he do?
He turns heel, giving Pittsburgh some sweet chin music right through the babershop glass and signs with the Flyers.
He's taking his talent to the Filth, folks.
Amazing. Even LeBron James is impressed.
On the other hand, we're still not sure what the hell the Flyers are doing this summer. We can only imagine that they have a "one locker room cancer" quota to fill since they shipped Carter and Richards off. Consider that quota filled.
The Days of Y'Orr staff sends its condolences to the fine folks over ThePensBlog for this betrayal of all betrayls by Jagr. We also would like to thank Jagr for making an otherwise boring Free Agent Day worth while.
Can't wait for the first Pens-Flyers game. Shit's going to be insane. Add a comment
While everyone else in the NHL is jerking off to #JagrWatch, we're still basking in Boston Bruins Stanley Cup victory.
We stumbled across this sweet video of Tim Thomas 2011 Playoff Highlights -- maybe the best three minutes of video you'll watch this weekend.
Seriously, was there anyone more hungry and more determined than Thomas this playoffs? We think not. When we were interviewed by Vancouver newspapers and radio stations we predicted how well Thomas would be in the playoffs. We told them about the chip on his shoulder and his determination. Vancouver newspapers said something about LOLongo -- we don't remember what exactly. Pretty sure we were rolling our eyes at that point and dreaming of Timmy saves.
Speaking of Thomas, we still have a handful of the "Triple Crown Thomas" t-shirts still left. We have every size but Medium (which is sold out).

Sorry this took a while but we wanted to tweak a few things first. But finally the 2011 Bruins/DOY Redemption Tour t-shirts are available in the Days of Y'Orr store.
If you don't know what the Redemption Tour is than you must be a new reader to DOY. Read up, son.
Shirts are $19.99 + s/h. The price is a little bit higher than usual for us because it's double-sided print. Such is the way of SpreadShirt.
It comes in Men's and Women's standard weight (S - XXL) and Children's sizes.
Just head over to the DOY store and pick one up.
Also, we still have limited quantities of our "Triple Crown Timmy" t-shirts that we did with BLA Shirts. We sold through 85% of the stock before we even got the shirts from the printers. Not sure if we'll do a second round of 'em so get them while they're still around. Add a comment
Social Media is a wonderful thing. Almost everybody follows at least one athlete or former athlete on Twitter, but facebook is a little more exclusive. Not just anyone can become a friend their favorite athlete on facebook, most don't even know that they are on facebook.
Luckly, the Days of Y'Orr crew isn't just anybody.
As we try to come up with fresh content during the offseason, we take a look into some of the NHL's facebook profiles. It's only fitting that the first one we look at is Chara's after the news that broke today.
After the jump, we look Chara's latest Facebook post + comment.

Every year you get the same thing over and over. When the Stanley Cup ends bloggers, journalists and fans pump out the same things over and over. Report cards, rumors, transactions, wish list and trade reviews bubble over like a forgotten pot of spaghetti. Once all that is over and done with, there's only one thing left to do: wait.
Wait until Free Agency starts on July 1st.
Wait until Training Camp.
Wait until Rookie Development Camp.
Well, you will still have to wait, but we are going to make it a little more interesting. Introducing to you ladies and gentlemen...
What's the Y'Orrsies? It's an award show dedicated solely to the Boston Bruins. In fact, some of the players perform for you, the audience, during breaks. We're not fucking around this time and we're not holding anything back. Categories include:
Most Likely To Party Without A Shirt On, I Need Subtitles When I Speak, Best Playoff Beard, Best Hair and more!
It's not just the categories that are awesome, the presenters are just as good. Naturally you get Jon, Justin, Robb and myself hosting the event. Our presenters include: Patrice Purrgeron, Uncles Jesse from the early episodes of Full House, Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and many, many more!
This is where you come in! The Days of Y'Orr staff has picked their favorite Bruins photoshop of the 2010-2011 Boston Bruins season. They are:
Top Gun Timmy
Thomas Is God
Mad Hatter Bergy
The Y'Orrsies will be happening soon, so don't miss out on the greatness. Add a comment
Love 'em or hate 'em, there's no doubting the Dropkick Murphys love for Boston. ESPN-Boston even lets them do a regular feature for their site (we're still not entirely sure why).
And they're riding the Boston Bruins Stanley Cup victory wave right along with everyone else in Boston. The only difference is when DKM does it they're on tour. In Canada. And are blasting "We Are the Champions" before hitting the stage.
We also got an email from DOY buddy Jaye H. who was at the show.
just a couple of notes to go along with the pictures..
- The band came out to We Are The Champions, I laughed my ass off, I wonder how many people got that
- The entire merch crew were wearing Bruins Stanley Cup champs stuff
Ken Casey riled up the crowd pretty good, saying if Vancouver had won, they would have come out in their god awful ugly ass jerseys (I'm paraphrasing) and then brought out a big picture of him with the cup, tossed it into the crowd saying "I want that back in one piece" Had kind words to say about local boy Milan Lucic, gave shit to the rioters, mentioned the band was in town for games 1 and 7..This was all before they launched into Time to Go..I wonder how many Canucks fans sang along during the 'Go Go Black and Gold' parts ;)
After the jump... pictures and video of DKM taunting Canada, plus some Philly jerkoff states the obvious -- Boston fans are "obnoxious"

Justin: Welcome everyone to the first ever Y'Orrsie Awards!
Robb: Before we get started, there are a few people that Days of Y'Orr would like to thank. First, we'd like to thank VFW Post 223 for hosting the event. Without the VFW, not only would we have to have this show at a Fridays but we would not be able to drink such high quality beer like Bud Light at a nice price.
Jon: We'd also like to thank the makers of Meow Mix for sponsoring this event. This is what happens when you leave a cat to look for sponsorships.
Greg: And last but not least we'd like to thank everyone who is in the audience right now. I'm sure all six of you will enjoy this awards show.
Justin: We have a great lineup of awards, presenters and musical guests on the bill tonight! First we'd like to welcome Patrice Purrgeron.
After the jump, the complete Y'Orrsie Awards!
