Game Day Preview: Bruins vs Gorton's Fisherman

Written by Jon on .

To this day we wonder who approved of those Islanders jerseys. Awful. But as hockey fans, in a weird way we kind of want to own one.

Bruins are riding a three game losing streak. They played some fairly uninspired hockey against Pittsburgh and Montreal, wilting in playoff atmosphere like games.

They got frustrated last night with all the penalties and lost in OT. Time for a bounce back game.

Islanders are playing strong. You can call me Al Montoya is on fire. They've got points in eight of their last ten games. Time for the Bruins to put the past week behind them and jump back on the winning track.

After the jump... a lazy preview, projected roster, game day links and game day video...

Bruins Viewing Party Recap

Written by Justin on .

This post has been on the back burner because of stupid Chara stuff.

But like we said the day after while we nursed our hangover, the game sucked but the viewing party was a blast. We had about 50ish people RSVP for the event; not sure if that many came out but there was very much a sweet crowd there -- some of which came all the way down from NH (dedication!). The entire DOY staff showed up with kid-sized WWF Wrestling Championship belts... our silly gift to ourselves for winning Best Bruins Blog.

We hosted the event alongside our buddy Joe Gill over at Boston Sports Then and Now. He did a great job booking the venue and getting us free apps. He did a recap story of the event, too.

We gave away around 10 t-shirts (from us, SupahFans who are having a sale this weekend, Bottom Line Appearal, and Colleen Keenan), an autograph print of Tyler Seguin's first goal, a Bobby Orr print, a Johnny Boychuk print and a $100 giftcard to the Place which was then promptly spent by the very generous winner. Not a bad night, despite the game.  All-in-all everyone seemed to have a good time and the beer flowed like water. A good atmosphere to watch hockey we think.

If you were at the Bruins-Habs event, let us know what you thought of it. We're thinking of doing another viewing party in the playoffs.

After the jump, lots of pictures of the event... lots of pictures... Greg (@PezDOY) photobombs at least 25% of them...

In the Trenches: Stories from Bruins & Habs fans in Montreal

Written by Justin on .

Bruins fans in Montreal
A lot has been said about the Chara-Pacioretty incident. We've given our opinions of the hit, we've shown some disturbing images created by a Habs fan that was forwarded to us and talked about some of the antics of the side-show acts going up in Montreal. You'd think Boston nuked Montreal there's so much hate raging up north --  WWIII is upon us. And the classyness of some Montreal fans continued this morning with some folks making Bruins-Japan jokes.

Just wow. Bodies still floating on shore and this assclown's cracking jokes. Truly disturbing.

In short, Montreal Canadiens fans are pissed. We get that. There's a backlog of 911 calls to prove it. But it's one thing to be pissed off at Zdeno Chara and another thing to take that anger and direct it at innocent people. And sadly, it seems like a lot of Habs fans don't seem to know the difference.

We've gotten two emails over the past 48 hours -- a thoughtful note from a Canadiens fan and one from a Bruins fan, both living in the Montreal area. We're going to show both sides of the coin and hopefully some of these Montreal fires will be doused (pun only mildly meant).

We're hoping that after this post we don't have to do another Chara-Pacioretty post. It's getting tiring and it's like beating a dead horse. We've probably contributed to the horse beating, but we think these emails are important to put everything that's gone on this week into context and in hope that people will chill the fuck out.

After the jump... their stories...

Buffalo Still Sucks. Bruins Lose.

Written by Jon on .

Pretty much sums up our feelings on the night. B's struggling. 80 penalties through them off. Whatever.

After the jump.... refs are blind, Chara targeted and McQuaid ruins faces.......

You stay classy Montreal

Written by Jon on .

We find ourselves in a funny place today as Bruins fans.

We, like most Bruins fans, believe there was no malice on Chara's end. We believe it was an unfortunate incident with an almost tragic ending. We say "almost" because it sounds like Pacioretty will be able to play again, though not this season.

If you're a Montreal fan, you're spreading idiocy like the plague. Apparently Chara plotted this for years. Chara wanted to end Pacioretty's career. He should be burned at the stake, drawn and quartered and then fed to Oprah.

Apparently Montreal fans are also mind readers. They claim Chara 100% intended to injure Pacioretty and that they "know this for a fact!" Oh really? You talk to Chara today? He admit that to you? Because if so we'd love to hear the recording of that. Montreal is like a freaking zoo.

Habs fans are emailing us telling us they hope we die. I guess we were in on the plot with Chara. They're saying we don't know how it feels to see a player from our team laying motionless on the ice.

Guess they haven't heard of Marc Savard. Or Patrice Bergeron.

After the jump..... Montreal media and fans make our collective IQ drop by about 1,000,000 points......

Game Day Preview: Breaking Up Is Hard To Do

Written by Robb on .

We're focusing on Buffalo for the sake of this preview, don't worry, we got stuff on Montreal in the works.

'Tis a bittersweet day in the Days of Y'Orr office.  Naturally we loves us some Buffalo Sabres games, those magical games where our twitters and emails runneth over with insults and hate mail spewing from the fingertips of Sabres fans.  Almost all 100% stupid and totally uncalled for and unprovoked.

Ok...maybe not TOTALLY unprovoked...

Sadly, barring a playoff match up, this is the final meeting of these two teams this season.  While it'll be nice not drowning in the Katrina-level monsoon of tears that typically follows a Sabres game (win or lose), we'd be lying if we said that we aren't a little choked up about it.

With that in mind, we're going to do something a little different with this preview.  After the jump, we are taking a look back at just a few of our favorite Buffalo Sabres photoshops this year.  For the sake of space we excluded the photos sent to us for the Tougher Than Kaleta post, but there is some good stuff there, so check it out if you haven't.

No suspension for Chara; Montreal burns

Written by Justin on .

Zdeno Chara misses suspension for hit on Mac Pacioretty
*sniff sniff* Smell that?

Holy shit. Slightly shocked by this. Didn't think Chara deserved a suspension but thought the NHL would hand one out anyways.

Mike Murphy statement on Chara (via Sean Leahy's twitter):

After a thorough review of the video I can find no basis to impose supplemental discipline. This hit resulted from a play that evolved and then happened very quickly -- with both players skating in the same direction and with Chara attempting to angle his opponent into the boards. I could not find any evidence to suggest that, beyond this being a correct call for interference, that Chara targeted the head of his opponent, left his feet or delivered the check in any other manner that could be deemed to be dangerous. This was a hockey play that resulted in an injury because of the player colliding with the stanchion and then the ice surface. In reviewing this play, I also took into consideration that Chara has not been involved in a supplemental discipline incident during his 13-year NHL career.

What'll be interesting will which Habs player will try to get retribution next time the Bs and Habs meet. Ryan White? He barely held his own against Boychuk. We're pretty sure Gomez will just try to talk Chara into tears. Subban will just go yap his gums. Hal Gill will just stand there like... well, Hal Gill.

Habs fans are already getting whiny and creating a Greg Campbell conspiracy. Some are still saying Bruins can't play real hockey (their record would prove otherwise). Some are saying the end result is what matters -- if that's the case any hit that results in an injury is suspendable and you might as well be watching women's Olympic hockey (Habs style, of course). Others are wondering who Lucic and Thornton will "kill" next. Not sure what they have to do with Chara. We don't blame Habs fans for being angry -- we'd be too -- but these grand conspiracies is just unneeded drama.

Really, the NHL needs to get rid of that stupid glass box between the benches. We know it's to help keep the team's from throwing jabs at each other and so Pierre McGuire can rub one out, but you get rid of that area somehow and you've cut down the turnbuckles in half from four to two -- just the two at each end of the bench.

It's also being reported that Pacioretty has a severe concussion (duh) and a fractured vertibrea (eeks). Hoping he makes a full recovery; hate to see a young career cut short.

The last NHL Wheel of Punishment was such a success, the NHL offices have decided to do it again. Unfortunately, the second round of NHL Wheel of Punishment involves another Bruin, this time Zdeno Chara. Let's shoot things over the Colin Campbell, take it away Colin!

colin

Colin: Welcome back to the NHL's only wheel based punishment show! Last month we saw a fantastic show that involved Dan Paille, Anton Volchenkov and our favorite contestant, Matt Cooke! Now it's time for everyone's favorite host, HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE'S GARY!!
