Game Day Preview: Panthers vs. Bruins - Love for Wideman?

Written by Justin on .

Florida Panthers vs. Boston Bruins

No Johnny Boychuk last night. Sadfaces were a-plenty at Days of Y'Orr HQ. Purrgeron nearly shot himself (not really). Boychuk's still considered DTD. Defense could definitely use his presence and the power play could definitely use his booming slapshot. We could use more epic interviews or blog entries from him.

Bruins win last night improves them to 7-1-0 on the road. Goddamn Road Warriors.

Boston Bruins are Road Warriors

On the flip side, the Bruins are a poor-ass 3-4-1 at the Garden. WTF?

Big story line is fan-favorite Dennis Wideman returns to Boston. Last time the Bruins-Cats met, Wideman scored a goal on Boston -- a zing of a "Remember me, assholes?" to all the fans watching back home. Should be interesting to see how he reacts tonight. He'll probably will continue to hear boos. But:

1) Has he grown enough man balls to let it not hurt his delicate feelings, or...
2) Has he finally grown accustomed to boos in Boston that he just will tune it out?

It's been suggested that the Bruins create a special chant just for good ol' Wideman should Greg Campbell or Nathan Horton score.

Will the Boston Bruins fans boo Dennis Wideman?

Not all are on board with this idea.

Booing Wideman is like booing a retarded child. Bwah?

From our buddy Cornelius over at The Hockey Blog Adventures:

Last year's top playoff scorer for the Bruins (Wideman) is going to get booed and it's going to be stupid. Kinda hope he gets a hat trick in a 4-3 Bruins win, honestly.

We're torn. We were all set to give Wideman a clean slate this season until Chiarelli pulled the trigger and dealt him to hockey purgatory for Hort and Soup (one of PC's better transactions). But at the same time Wideman had the mental strength of a gnat last season and sometimes being a dick is fun.

Wideman gave fans that outlet last year. Maybe he'll take the heat off Wheeler for at least one night.

Game Recap: Bruins Win, But Still Missing Boychuk

Written by Robb on .

bsnyrfinal

Boston Bruins win their second in a row in what may have been one of the quickest games of the whole season.  Thomas was as solid as ever (despite letting up two goals), Seguin played what could be the best game of his young NHL career thus far, and even without Krejci the top line continues to product.

The game wasn't all lollipops and rainbows though.  For starters we're sad to say that the whispers of Boychuk returning tonight turned out to be untrue.

bear_no

Also, if you watched the game, you may have noticed that the Bruins' effort was off and on for the entire game.  Kinda hard to be too hard on them for winning, but that type of play has become a little too typical lately.

Game Day: Bruins vs. Rangers -- The Return of Boychuk?

Written by Justin on .

Boston Bruins vs. NY RangersGood-NewsGood news, everyone!

We woke up to see this tweet:

James Murpy Johnny Boychuck tweet

To which we replied with:

JustinDOY_Boychuck_Tweet

Needless to say, Murph is somewhere right now trying to scrub that image out of his brain with a brillo pad. Here's the link to his story, by the way. It's the least we can do after that tweet.

We make no attempt at hiding our man love for The Boychuk, so to say that we're excited that he may return to tonight's line-up is nothing close to how we really feel. The entire Days of Y'Orr staff are wearing their Super Boychuk t-shirts today in honor of His Greatness.

We were hoping to have some fantastic Boychuk photoshops for you for this preview but we have days jobs with out Photoshop. You'll have to wait for recap for 'em.

Of course, some MSM reporters aren't quite ready to jump on the Boychuk's Back Tonight! wagon, since JC and PC have him listed DTD (he's been out since Oct 23). As of this post Bish is reporting that JC is saying Boychuck is "game time decision." So, if we're getting you're hopes up and he's not in the line-up tonight just know we'll be as disappointed as the rest of you.

But how awesome would it be for Boychuk to return to face the team that injured him and enact some on-ice revenge on Durbinsky?

After the jump... the Vote for Thornton movement picks up steam, projected line-up, game day links and a classic Tim Thomas/Sean Avery video...

Asshat claims Bruins circumvented cap with Seguin's Dunkin' Donuts deal

Written by Justin on .

Tyler Seguin Dunkin Donuts

Normally we don't even take on this grade of stupid but we're on our lunch break and we haven't hated on anyone in a while.

Today is that day.

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , asshat extraordinaire for BusinessInsider.com, had a short post this morning claiming the Boston Bruins circumvented the salary cap with Tyler Seguin by having Dunkin Donuts pick him up as their new spokesperson.

Here's what he wrote:

Tyler Seguin, the second overall pick of the 2010 NHL Draft has signed an endorsement deal with Dunkin' Donuts — a company that just happens to be one of his team's biggest sponsors.

The Bruins have significant salary cap issues this season, leading some to speculate that teams are using these deals with trusted corporate partners to funnel extra money to players "under the table."

Matthew Coller of BizofHockey.com has also jumped on the short bus this morning. And all because some dude Terry Frei was told to see "how long it took NHL executives to figure out new ways how to not necessarily circumvent or violate the cap, but to at least find imaginative ways to 'massage' it."

IRideShortBusBe careful, Baumer is behind the wheel...

Two things:

1) Seguin's making the rookie max in the league. The Bruins can't pay him any more by NHL rules. So right there it's not cap circumvention.

In fact, here's the rule from NHL-FUCKING-DOT-COM (stress ours):

How much can Entry Level players make?

Entry Level players will be subject to a maximum annual salary (plus signing and games played bonuses) of $850,000 for 2005 and 2006 draftees; $875,000 for 2007 and 2008 draftees; $900,000 for 2009 and 2010; and $925,000 for 2011 draftees.

Seguin's making $900K. He's capped out.

2) The Bruins are still in cap trouble. If the Dunkin Donuts deal was to help the Bruins cap issues... ugh... well... it failed. They're still in trouble when Sturmface and Savard come back. #NHLCapCircumventionFail

3) How is being signed by a sponsor cap circumvention? To think that a team is persuasive enough to get another company to drop bombshells of cash on a player is a bit of a stretch of the imagination, although not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

But it's not like Bruins fans came out in mass swarms to see Seguin play at the Boston Garden during rookie games this fall or are buying his t-shirts by the truckload... Oh wait... they are...

Really. This is just some lazy reporter trying to stir up some trouble and get easy hits for his website. We've provided the link so you can read what shithead wrote, but don't. Don't give him the benefit of the hits; plus, we "excerpted" his entire post in those two graphs anyways. A little more "digging" and he would've noticed the Bruins have maxed out what they can give the rookie.

If Baumer and Co. wants to start a Cap Circumvention Witch Hunt, they'll have to start in another city.

Game Recap: Bruins Win, Thomas Gets Shutout Number 4!

Written by Robb on .

njbsfinal

Thank you, thank you Bruins for showing that you have the capability to win at home; we were beginning to forget.  Boston wins and Thomas gets another shutout on Military Appreciation Night.  All good stuff!

Speaking of good stuff...this is one of the funnier things we've seen in a while:

yellowmanbs
Someone find these guys and buy them a beer!

This is going to have to be a fairly simple recap.  There really were not a whole lot of stand out plays during the game, but the few that there were came from Boston.  Thomas was stellar, the offense had some good shots at Brodeur, not much negative to say... but seeing as how we're pessimists, we can still find a few things to nitpick about.

Make the Right Choice: Vote Thornton

Written by Jon on .

The All-Star game voting is already off and running today and much like past years is already completely ridiculous.

After seeing the NHL's terrible list, the Days of Y'Orr staff was discussing players we'd like to see get in that probably won't. 'Cause, you know, the people voting only vote for the players they've seen in NHL commercials.

Then Days of Y'Orr Twitter pal Katie Shanahan (@bruins22) gave us an idea, an idea so obvious we don't know why we didn't start this sooner. It was like a bolt of lightning hit us in the tip of the... umm... nose to paraphrase Stepbrothers.

That is when our mission started. We have a goal for this season's All-Star game. Add some toughness. Add some class. Add the NHL's purest sniper.

Our goal? Get Shawn Thornton in the All-Star game.

ShawnThorntonAllStarGame_ad

How can we NOT try this? We don't hide our love for Thornton here. He is the third greatest NHL player of all time. And just think about how awesome that story would be? Shawn Thornton is the heart of the Bruins. He is one guy you can point at and say he left it all on the ice every game. Thornton is also a solid human being. He entertains us every game. We need to repay him.

But that's not all. You may have noticed another Bruins name mysteriously missing from the All-Star ballot. He's a former videogame star and hates guys named Dion. He is also the Bruins MVP so far this season... behind Shawn Thornton.

hortonmariobros

We are talking about the one and only Nathan Horton. We want... no, we NEED to make this happen. And we ask for your help Bruins fans.

After the jump, we start the Thorts and Horts campaign on offense and ask for a vote for Stuchuk on the back-end.....

Game Day: Devils vs. Bruins

Written by Justin on .

NJBOSGuess what? There's a game tonight. We weren't sure if anyone remembered with all of Boston and half of the media talking Colin Campbell's hating on Marc Savard emails being the big story of the day.

Kovyjoke is barely ahead of Shawn Thornton in the scoring race.

When you shoot like that, we're not surprised.

Today is "Send a Soldier to the Game" night and Bruins fans came through, donating over $70,000 worth of tickets to US troops. Props to everyone who partook in this.

Umm... not much else to say about this game. All minds are on Colin Campbell, really. Hopefully the Bruins minds are on the game. Poor Greg. He probably just hates it when his dad makes the news.

Remember, folks: Start a "Thank You, Colin" chant.

Colin Campbell calls Marc Savard "little fake artist" aka shit is hitting the fan

Written by Justin on .

Colin Campell's bais against Marc Savard

Shit, meet Fan; Fan, meet shit.

Tyler Dellow, of mc79hockey.com, uncovered some "fun" emails showing that NHL disciplinary czar Colin Campbell has just a bit of a grudge against Bruins center Marc Savard, calling him the "biggest faker going" and a "little fake artist." Below is what can be found in Dellow's post (which is up and down do to bandwidth issues -- he's getting a lot of traffic for this piece). Stress is ours:

A couple weeks later Mike Murphy or Mr. Walkom (it was not clear which) wrote to Mr. Campbell (and Mr. Walkom) that Mr. Warren had “missed high stick on [player] with 130 left in the game…..hard for a Ref to see….[general manager] will be whining’. Mr. Campbell replied:

To Stephen Walkom/Tor/NHL@NHL

A bend in the road is a dead end if you round the corner and Dean Warren is standing there. Your answer re: his high stick calls and the score of the game were horse shit. The 3rd call on [player] was while they were down 5 on 4 and on a def zone face off vs that little fake artist [player] I had him in [city] biggest faker going. And Warren fell for it when he grabbed his face on a face off. Your supposed to see the act, not call the embellishing act. Dean Warren has to go with [referee] There must be a way to get rid of this guy. Is there a way we can tract (sic) and total minors called by referees this year. We could then get the minors they call per game. … or with 2 [referees on the ice] it is impossible? Warren and [referee] out of [club’s] games. Give them to [referees].

There's a few more emails and then...

Re [player]
Colin Campbell to Stephen Walkom, Mike Murphy
02/#/2007 09:21 AM

I know Murph and Kinger like [player] as a player but my view of him is this exactly…he puts his whining ahead of the game. I don’t think this is a regular occurrence (…..getting screwed) and …..exploded ………over the disallowed goal. He may be uncontrollable by ………….and……………..as I think his frustration level has hit a high point. He hates officials as well. He is still pissed off at [referee] for a call he missed in the playoffs years ago as I remember him bugging Murph about it. Let’s give him Warren and [referee] than (sic) he will really have something to whine about.

Dellow is able to narrow down the game in question to the Bruins vs. Panthers on 2/24/07 when Colin's son, Greg, got called for a high stick on Savard. Here's video highlights from that game -- not a good one for Boston. Fast forward to 1:50. Savard actually scores on the PP from the Campbell high sticking call.

No wonder Colin was pissed.

These emails could easily blow up in Campbell's face. We'd be lying if we didn't say we're a little wet in the pants for that idea.

First off: Colin's not supposed to get involved with any incident regarding his son. These emails make it pretty clear that Colin is unable to do just that. He pushed for the firing of a ref because of a high stick call against his son. Lame sauce.

Secondly: Clearly, Colin isn't one to forgive and forget. Question now is: Did Campbell's bias against Savard come into play when Matt Cooke laid Savard out last spring?

Days of Y'Orr buddy, Joe Proulx of BackYard-Hockey.com had a great idea for tonight's Bruins-Devils tilt:

Colin Campbell sucks balls

Do it.

That needs to happen tonight. We're counting on you, Boston.

According to DJ Bean, Greg Campbell won't be answering questions about his dad. He shouldn't have to. Greg shouldn't have to answer for his father's crimes. We <3 Soupy. Let's leave him be, people.

After the jump... Campbell knows a lot about faking it (photoshops), and what everyone else is saying about the Campbell/Savard email.

Thomas Feels Rask's Pain. Bruins Lose.

Written by Jon on .

bsottfinalscore

No transition game. Little effort. Bad bounces. Refusal to fight back after said bad bounces. That was the Bruins tonight. Too bad they can't play all their games on the road. Bruins are basically unstoppable on the road but hate playing at home for some reason.

Tim Thomas suffered his first loss of the season despite another great effort in net. Now he knows how Rask feels. He far outplayed the team in front of him and kept them in the game, but his teammates didn't help him out.

Tim_Thomas

In short, we want a refund. After their great start to the season, the Bruins have lost four of their last five. We knew the struggles would come. We were just hoping their would be more effort involved. Oh well.

After the jump... Thomas saves, Alfreddsson is old and Recchi..... fights?!?!

No, you're not high; Mark Recchi really did fight

Written by Justin on .

Recap coming later, but we figured after tonight's loss we all could use a little more of this:

Don't adjust your computer screen and no, you're not high. OK, well maybe you are, but that is Old Man Recchi dropping the gloves tonight against some no name from Ottawa.

Hope Seguin was watching. That's called heart right there.

Shawn Thornton was taking notes... and that's saying something.

There's a 16 year difference between the two. Recchi lands a few punches and gets the take down. No namer gets to say he fought the ageless Mark Recchi.

Not bad for 42. We wouldn't screw with him.

Wonder what was said to get Recchi to fight.

Experts say that 2004 was the last time Rex got in a scrap on the ice but we beg to differ. We think it's a bit longer than that. Here's an image from his last fight.
