Rough loss for the Bruins in what can be looked as one of those "scheduled losses." Playing the Pens on the road on the tail end of back-to-back games twice in one week is awful scheduling by the NHL and just plain ol' tough titties for Boston. It was a hard played game by both sides. Not many mistakes were made but the ones that were cost the Bruins a potential point or two.

Julien said he wasn't disappointed with his team's efforts. We wished we saw stronger forechecking, more physical play by all four lines and a bit more sense of urgency against a Pens defense which is suspect at best and without Letang for most of the game. Didn't happen. Pens outworked Boston. Simple as that.

Where that's just two lost points the real loss may be that of David Krejci who took a Johnny Rocket right above the kneecap. He was helped off the ice but later seen walking onto the bus.

Bruins say he'll travel with the team. So did Kelly and we know how that turned out. After the game some fans were ready with pitchforks and torches to go hunt down Boychuk (probably not a smart idea, kiddies), and also assumed the worse because Boston and reasons. But let's wait until the team doctors figure out what's wrong before people jump on their own daggers, shall we?

Also that injury totally was a buzzkill. Destroyed the momentum the team was building on trying to tie the game up.

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! I hope everyone is resting their hangover with a Bloody Mary or something of that ilk as they get ready for what should be a really good hockey game today. Boston is back in Pittsburgh to take on the Eastern Conference's second place team for the second time in less than a week. If you want to give yourself PTSD, you'll remember that Boston had a two goal lead with about 5 minutes left in the game and then completely puked on their shoes. 

Things will be different today because Horton and Lucic found their game and their love for one another.

It was really only a matter of time before Horton and Lucic finally woke up and started their bromance once again. While they were never be comparable to a whoever-Nalkin-Neal line, the Bruins "first" line can be dangerous against this Pens team. The Penguins can't handle a physical team. They aren't built to bang like Boston can bang and the Bruins proved it when they pushed the Crapitals around all game yesterday. 

Is there anything more bro than this high five? 

I bet you don't even lift bro. 

Both teams are coming off big wins against their opponent yesterday. Boston smacked the taste out of Washington's mouth and Pittsbugh shut out the Rangers 3-0. 

The key to beating Pittsburgh is to do exactly what the Bruins did against Washington. No team in the NHL can hang with Boston when they start to throw their weight around. Who on Pittsburgh is going to stand up against McQuaid or Thornton or Lucic or Horton? 

If you shut down the Crosby line, there's a solid chance you beat the Penguins. They aren't loaded with depth like the Bruins are. James Neal misses the shit out of Malkin and Dustin Jefferies isn't getting the job done at center. 

While Boston blows a two goal lead like an altar boy in confessional on a Saturday night, playing the night before crushed their legs. Whatever energy they had going into the third period (which was virtually none) leaked out of them and they couldn't handle the onslaught that Pittsburgh brought. 

Today will be different. Both teams played the day before. Both teams played at 1 o'clock. If Boston can muster a lead against the Penguins, I think they can hold it.

About flippin' time. We're more than halfway through the season and we finally get to see the Boston Bruins absolutely bully their way to victory. And holy helly does it feel good.

After being on paid leave or something, the "First" line finally looked like the first line for Boston scoring all but one of Boston's goal and combined for nine points (not including the own goal). This is exactly why the Bruins need the Horton-Krejci-Lucic line to play their game and play hard. When that threesome starts pushing their weight around and making things happen, Boston dominates. Simple as that. We think this is the first time we actually saw the Bruins play like the Bruins. And with that said Boston improved to 19-4-3. Scary thought for the rest of the East, eh?

Besides the first line finally tossing up some points and banging bodies there were plenty of fisticuffs to go around... because St. Paddy's Day and reasons...

Also, Bruins are undefeated during matinee games this season.

Ugh, it's that time where everything I hate will ultimately come forward into one vomit inducing moment. It's St. Patrick's Day, which I love because i'm Irish, I love to drink and I love corned beef and potatoes. Honestly, none of it bothers me. You know what bothers me? 

GREEN. FUCKING. ST PATRICK'S DAY. JERSEYS.

2. Black + Gold Does Not Equal Green. Is there any other team further away on the color spectrum than the Boston Bruins in terms of wearing green? Seriously. Who wakes up in the morning and says: "You know what I'd like to purchase on this brisk day? A green Boston Bruins hockey sweater!" because if someone did, please pick up a knife, turn the blade to your face and punch yourself over and over and over. 

Anyway - fuck those jerseys and fuck Milan Lucic for wearing one. Score a goal you prick. You fucking prick. You're going to make 6 million dollars next season and fourth liners have as many goals as you. You're a "first line" player, play like it. Maybe instead of dicking around this offseason you could have - ya know - skated? 

I'm so happy you're the highest paid forward next season. So fucking excited. It's going to be awesome watching you skate around like FDR trying to run out of quick sand. Also, please score a playoff goal but I know that's foreign to you so I doubt it'll happen. 

Oh yeah - the hockey game. So the Capitals are a pretty shitty hockey team but are only 7 points out of 8th place. I can't wait until they're at the bottom of their new division next year, getting teabagged by the Penguins and Rangers and AIDS from the Flyers. 

Boston should roll these clowns, but then again we don't know which Boston team shows up. It's probably the one that scores two first period goals, plays like absolute donkey cunt in the second and somehow holds on to a 3-1 win because someone scores an empty net. Then, because its Boston and St. Patrick's Day weekend, the Garden can dance out of the exits to the Dropkick Murphys and I can blow my potato famished brains out. 

Fucking sickening really. 

I would expect Khudobin to start against the Caps.

You're in for a quick recap because Team DOY has been super busy with some good stuff we're going to announce soon. Also, Justin and Robb were at the game, Jon was helping his father get settled into his new place and I was dealing with a 20 month old who sounds like Darth Vader. This recap will be a short one. 

Another win for the Bruins where they don't play a full 60 minutes of hockey. In fact, their legs are lamer than FDR's. At some point this team is going to turn it on right? Right? I mean, there's only so many 2 goal leads that they can piss away before they look in the mirror and say "Hey, let's not do this anymore?" right? 

Either way, 2 points are two points.

Happy Pi (Paille) Day, everyone.

Bruins vs. Panthers tonight. A good team for the Bruins to play against to bounce back from that awful third period meltdown against the Penguins. We know this year's schedule is rough and fatigue is gonna hit them but they gotta find a way to fight through it, especially when they're up two goals to none toward the end of the game.

Last Bs-Panthers game, Boston won 4-1. We're expecting more of the same tonight. Claude Julien called out the "first line" again this morning, saying they need to find a way to contribute.

"They have to go back to their North-South game-those guys are better served when they play that way," he said.

Right now that first line is just dead weight. All the offense is being generated by the "second" line and the Merlot line. That's 10 different ways of awful. Good thing those guys works out 'cause they're carrying the team this season.

Chris Kelly is out for god knows how long. It was reported today that he has a broken tibia and is out indefinitely. Ouch. Here's the play for those who don't remember and/or love to watch knee on knee hits:

According to the Bruins, Kelly is out indefinitely. Those looking for a timetable might find it instructive that Kings center Jeff Carter missed six weeks with a broken left tibia during the 2006-07 season as a member of the Flyers. On the other end of the recovery spectrum, Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference broke his left tibia back in 2008-09 and missed close to 10 weeks. 

Six weeks is a little more substantial during a shortened 48-game season, though, and it’s conceivable that the injury could keep Kelly out for the rest of the regular season if it’s indeed a six-week recovery process. That’s all assuming it was the same exact injury for Kelly and Carter, and there’s no way of knowing that until speaking with Bruins management and their medical staff.

This means we'll see Raptor Jesus at center with Pandolfo on one wing and Caron on the other. Always the potential of seeing Paille shifted up to the third line for extra speed if need be. Also he's a hot hand scoring wise for Boston (somehow) at the moment. Then there's always Carl Soderberg who may come to Boston. Soderberg is facing a potential suspension after cross-checking an opponent in the head at the end of his SEL playoff game today.

One by one the original third line for the Bs this year is going down.

Carl Söderberg's team Linkoping got their asses handed to them today in the opening round of the SEL Playoffs, losing 6-0 to HV71 (Jönköping). Toward the end of the game, Soderberg unleashed a little fury:

Carl Söderberg recieved a match penalty for a crosscheck to the head late in the first playoff game (they were losing 6-0)

Yikes. Talking about leaving your league with a bang. If this keeps up we'll be seeing Soderberg in a Bs sweater sooner than later. Also can't wait for all the "signed another goon" taunts 'cause Sweden is such a goon farm.

UPDATE: Söderberg was handed a 7 games suspension minutes ago. Three of these will be from his salary, and the other four he can't play.

Barring Linkoping winning the seires it looks like that's the end of Sod's career in the SEL. He should be pretty well rested when/if he makes his first appearance in Boston. Him and Looch can start the "Player That Wears #17 and Gets Suspended for Throwing a Cross-Check to the Head During the Playofs" club. Good times.

As soon as the game was over the excuses poured in. Yes, we're sure the Bruins were tired after playing 65+ minutes the previous night. Yes, we're sure the Penguins relentless attack didn't help the Bruins energy reserves. But seriously. They scored their two goals and then just sat back and watched. You CAN'T do that against the Penguins. You just can't. They're too good.

Give credit to the Penguins. The B's kept them bottled up most of the game but they kept fighting. They never sat back. They kept pushing and pushing until the Bruins went home crying to mommy. Kunitz drew blood and the Penguins turned into sharks. Apparently the Bruins couldn't afford a bigger boat.

We're not buying fatigue as an excuse to completely abandon the game plan that was holding the Penguins at bay.

We hope Claude Julien flogs everyone. 

We felt the same at the end of the game.

Also, how awesome would a Bruins-Penguins playoff series be? To quote Joe Haggerty on Twitter: "Couldn't help but feel I was watching a preview of the Eastern Conference Finals."

Also, if you missed our awesome guest Jen (@JennyJenny987) on the pregame show, she predicted the Penguins would win 3-2. Yup. That happened. We blame her. Bad Jen. BAD!
