Patrice Bergeron Out Indefinitely with 'Moderate Concussion'

Written by Justin on .

Bergeron Concussion

Last night's win against the Senators was great and all except for Patrice Bergeron getting an elbow to the temple in an accidental collision with Colin Greening. He didn't return to the game and won't be returning the line up for the foreseeable future. Chiarelli spoke briefly about it:

“He was in very good spirits,” Chiarelli said. “He was out walking today. He was annoyed at it. He was emotional [Tuesday] night.”

Yea, no shit. Fourth concussion of Bergeron's career and he'd been having one of the best seasons of his career at that, too. Not to mention there's no harder worker or competitor in the NHL than Patrice Bergeron. If we were him we'd be pissed, too. Chia said Bergy had a really sore neck today, too.

Chiarelli doesn't know when Bergy will be back in the line-up. Fact that Bergy was out walking is a good sign but it's a concussion so who the hell knows.

Bergeron has 31 points (10 goals 21 assists) in 35 games this season. Here's the hit:

Jaromir Jagr is a Boston Bruin

Written by Greg Ezell on .

UPDATE:

So Lane and someone we don't know is off to Dallas.

Original post:

Oh God I feel like Justin right now. Now it's going to blow up in my face. Apparently the Bruins have acquired Jaromir Jagr for two prospects and a pick. I will update this when we know more.

But hey, Jagr also confirmed it.

I hope he lines up with Krejci.

So....

PREVIEW 35: Ottawa Senators at Boston Bruins. WHO CARES, JAGR WATCH!

Written by Greg Ezell on .

Man, after Iginla fell apart we all thought that Boston wouldn't do anything. You heard about the big names like St. Louis and Jagr being off of the market and we all thought it was over. Apparently, we're not done yet folks.

Boston Jagr

Man, this should be on a t-shirt. I tweeted Sam Adams to see if we could get a special seasonal brew made. But seriously, if the Bruins acquired Jagr then it would immediately upgrade their FIRST LINE (where he belongs) and power play.

But that doesn't matter for tonight because the Bruins welcome the Senators who are STILL IN THE PLAYOFFS and currently rocking the 5th seed like bawsses. I can't believe that the Senators are still in this despite their best players seemingly dieing.

Hopefully the win Sunday in Buffalo kciks the Bruins int he ass and they get their shit together. I'm sure the trade deadline has the guys playing with some hesitation, but you have to let that go and win hockey games. Montreal is rolling right now and if Boston doesn't get their shit together they aren't going to catch them.

But something needs to happen. This roster needs to be shaken up. When Jack and Andy can sit in the pressbox and notice that these guys aren't playing with any urgency or jump in their step, there's definitely an issue. Time to shake up "the core" because "the core" isn't playing as well as they can.

Whatever happens, I hope Ryane Clowe isn't it.

Khudobin is in net tonight vs the Senators. He's 1-0 against Ottawa with a 1.00 GAA and a .964 SV%. Khudobin has been playing well this season and was pretty much lights out against Buffalo. He deserves another shot tongiht.

after the jump, the rest of the preview...

Let the Jagr Watch Begin

Jagr Watch

Apparently all the Jagr talk before was mere speculation but now he's officially on the trading block.

Do it, Chiarelli. Would love to see him on Krejci's line. Bump Looch to the third line to abuse people and create space for Peverley and whoeverelseisplayingwingthatday. Greg covered why he'd be a great fit for Boston a few days ago.

Maybe him and Quaider could grow their sweet flows back.

Jay Feaster is the absolute worst

Written by Justin on .

Jay Feaster

Goddamn. Jay Feaster is so incompetent at his job that now he's expanded business to Boston. Not only did he tell Chiarelli that the Bruins had Jarome Iginla, he also requested the Bruins sign that one-year contract with Matt Bartkowski so he'd be all contracted up for the Flames when the trade was finalized.

So basically.... Chiarelli offers Bartkowski as part of the deal for Iginla.  Feaster's like "Done. Just sign that kid from Pittsburgh to a contract first." Chiarelli does that. Feaster says "Iginla is yours. Great doing business with you." Then Feaster goes MIA and doesn't talk to Chiarelli for almost 12 hours, and comes back with "Oops. We're actually sending him to Pittsburgh. Sorry kthnx Bye."

Yikes.

Feaster's the worst. Then again maybe Chia shouldn't have signed Bartkowski and just let the Flames deal with it. Sounds like that wasn't part of the puzzle. Chia working on good faith. Bet that doesn't happen again. Fool me once...

Again. Iginla wasn't going to fix the defense problem Boston needs to figure out, but this shit with Feaster and Iginla is just whacky.

VIEWING PARTY: Bruins vs. Habs on Sat April 6th

Written by Justin on .

Boston Bruins Viewing Party

On Saturday April 6th we're helping to throw another Boston Bruins Viewing Party. We like to do these once or twice a year so it's about time we fit one in before the playoffs. We're teaming up with our ol' friend Boston Sports Then & Now and Bruins Daily to throw this next one at The Harp on Causeway St. (same place as the Hockey Resurrection Party).

Here are the details:

When: Saturday, April 6th from 6pm - Whenever People Want to Leave
Where: The Harp -- 85 Causeway Street Boston, MA (across from the Garden)
Why: Because it's Bruins vs. Habs. Duh!
Who: Anyone 21+ (sorry, kiddos; it's a bar)

And as we usually try to do, this event us free. Get tickets at Bruinspalooza.eventbrite.com.

Last time we did a Bruins-Habs Viewing Party Chara tried killing Patches, so who knows what memories we'll all make on the 6th. So come on out and watch the game with Team DOY and Friends.

Life After Iginla: What Does Boston Do Now?

Written by Greg Ezell on .

[UPDATE] 12:08pm

Funny how these things work out huh? Pierre LeBrun just posted a story about Martin St. Louis not getting traded.

"Marty St. Louis is not going to be traded," Steve Yzerman told ESPN.com Friday. "He remains one of the best players in the league and an extremely important player to our team, both on and off the ice. We are a team in transition, we just made a coaching change, Marty is one of the leaders of the team, he is not going anywhere."

So take that for it is worth. I know GMs say this a lot and then trade a player, but Yzerman doesn't seem like a bullshitter.

Jarome Iginla has come and gone. He chose Pittsburgh over Boston and it's a done deal. Yesterday we all collectively woke up and cried abour Ray Shero having wizard powers, picture of Gary Bettman at a glory hole and Donald Fehr drowning in a bag of dicks. Now it's time for the Bruins, and the fans, to move on from having the rug pulled out from underneath them and get ready for a month of NHL hockey games before the playoffs start.

However, Boston still has some issues to address. Obviously they'll get better with health. Johnny Boychuk and Chris Kelly being out of the lineup hurts them if anything for the sheer fact of chemistry. It clear that Boston will have to address some of their holes via trade, namely a veteran winger who can provide scoring and leadership and defense.

Let's start with defense, as I think that's Boston's biggest need. In the summer I wrote why Boston should acquire Keith Yandle from the Coyotes.

KEITH YANDLE

None of these numbers blow you away, especially the hits, but you have to look at them compared to his play style. Yandle's play style is a lot like Joe Corvo in that he's more of an offensive, puck moving defenseman who can help on the power play. Now, we've seen guys like Corvo and Kaberle come to the Bruins system and flame out miserably. I think that Yandle has a better make-up than the two previous players, especially when Carolina's GM called signing Kaberle a mistake and traded him in season.

The good thing about Yandle is that he's durable. Like I mentioned earlier, from 2009-2012 he played in 246 regular season games which equates to 82 games per season. That's not even counting playoff games, which unlike Rick Nash, Yandle has some experience in playing.

ES TOI

PP TOI

SH TOI

18:43 (1st on PHX)

3:27 (1st on PHX)

0:09 (WOW)

So Yandle led Phoenix in ice time for even strength time on ice per game and power play time on ice per game, but only played 9 seconds of short handed time per game. Are you fucking kidding me? To me, that's a big blow when it comes to a defenseman who can't kill penalties. However, he's worth it for the power play time. It's possible that Yandle eats up all of Corvo's minutes (2:24 PP TOI/G) and cuts down on Seidenberg's PP TOI/G (2:36) which would make Seidenberg more available for short handed play.

I still stand by it, by the way.

Yandle can log big minutes and would fit perfectly in the Bruins' scheme. I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Boychuk get traded away for Yandle (or if we're lucky it would be Andrew Ference). But lets say, for shits and giggles, that Boychuk is sent to Phoenix:

Chara-Hamilton

Seidenberg-Yandle

Ference-McQuaid

I immediately see that as an upgrade. Look, I like what Boychuk brings to the table, but Yandle is a better hockey player. The biggest reason I don't see this happening: Salary.

Yandle is schedule to make $5.25M for the next two seasons after this one expires. With a declining salary cap and guys like Tuukka Rask, Nathan Horton and Anton Khudobin ready to become restricted/unrestricted free agents it'll be hard to get and keep a long term and expensive salary.

With that said, Yandle is probably my #1 option.

After the jump, the rest of the potential trade targets...

Chiarelli "Whines", Or As Normal People Call It, Explains Why Trade Fell Through

Written by Greg Ezell on .

Peter Chiarelli held a press conference about an hour ago to discuss some of the things that occured yesterday between the Flames, Penguins and of course the Bruins. If case you've been under a rock, Jarome Iginla is a Penguin. I'm not really here to comment on that, it's over and done with but if you missed out on Chiarelli's press conference, you missed out on some Grade A material that makes Jay Feaster look like a real piece of shit.

Here are a few quotes for Chiarelli:

"We were informed around noon yesterday that we had the player, we won the sweepstakes so to speak."

"From that point on there's been some discussions regarding Jarome taking some time to let things soak in. We had our game and prior to that we made moves scratching Bart and Koko and relied on the fact we had a deal."

"We believe we had a deal. We operated on the premise we had a deal. When things go silent usually something goes screwy. Later that night about quarter to 12 I got a call from Jay that it was the players choice and he opted to go to Pittsburgh and we were out."

So here is how I think everything went down:

  • Chiarelli to Feaster: Presents package of Koko, Bartkowski and unconditional first round pick
  • Feaster to Chiarelli: Deal, I'll talk to Jarome, see what's up.
  • Feaster to Igina: We've accepted a trade from Boston. You know you have to waive your NMC.
  • Iginla to Feaster: Yup, give me some time to soak it in.
  • Iginla puts out a "feeler" that somehow makes it's way to Ray Shero.
  • Shero to Feaster: Here's my package of college kids.
  • Feaster to Shero: LOL
  • Iginla to Murray Edwards (Flames owner): Tell Jay to take it.
  • Edwards to Feaster: Take Shero's deal

The rest is history.

This doesn't bury the Bruins. I know a lot of us around here were excited about Iginla coming to Boston because he would help the offense, but it wouldn't have solved everything. Other players can fill the role that Iginla would have filled. Boston still has issues on their backend, especially their 3rd pairing. It's horrible and a guy like Ryan Whitney could make it better.

The Bruins aren't dead in the water by any means. They're a point out of second place in the Eastern Conference and first place in their division. Let's all breathe and see what happens going forward. There's no way PC is done because Iginla chose Pittsburgh over Boston. It probably adds fuel to the fire, if anything.

Hopefully it's a wake up call to the guys on the roster that their peers don't view them as a Stanley Cup winning hockey team.
