A good portion of the Days Of Y'Orr crew couldn't catch the game tonight due to the Dropkick Murphys show, but that doesn't mean we didn't follow it...

Game Day Preview: Bruins at the Leafs

Written by Robb on .

Oh hello Toronto, we can barely recognize you when you're not scraping the bottom of the Eastern Conference.  They're currently 4 points away from tying Buffalo for the 8th seed of the Eastern conference.  Unfortunately for the Leafs, Buffalo has two has played two fewer games, so it's really not as close as it may look.

Really what we're trying to say is that you're not going to make the playoffs Toronto, now if you could kindly start dropping in the standings more to give us a better draft pick, that would be just fantastic.

leafssuck
The Bruins on the other hand need to get their shit together.  They've won just one game in their last six, granted three of those games were overtime losses, but they've still allowed Montreal to get within three points of them.  Montreal lost last night, so this will be a good chance to gain some more ground on them.

You know what may help? Scoring on the god damn power play!!!

Hornqvist not suspended! WE'RE OUTRAGED!

Written by Jon on .

Patric Hornqvist was fined, not suspended for elbow to Seguin's head
So that criminal Patric Hornqvist did not get suspended and was simply fined by the NHL.

This, good sirs and madams, is an absolute outrage! We want him drawn and quartered! He should be suspended for as many years as Tyler Seguin has stitches!!!

We hate you NHL. Hornqvist had cleary been plotting the demise of Tyler Seguin for several seconds, perhaps even minutes, and you failed to do anything about it! The fact that Hornqvist is ever going to play hockey again is an insult to our fan base and our sport.

We hope every person in Nashville gets mauled by wild wolverines with rabbies and herpes. If the NHL won't do anything, we will! WE'RE OUTRAGED!

So how did we show our disapproval of the violence in hockey?

BY BEING VIOLENT, OF COURSE! IT IS ON, BITCHES!

After the jump..... we teach the NHL a lesson by protesting, doing unspeakable things to pandas and having a DOY tea party.......

Dunkin Donuts Threatens to Pull Sponsorship After Hornqvist Hit

Written by Jon on .

There is obviously a problem or respect or carelessness in today's NHL game and we saw that again last night when Tyler Seguin got hit with an elbow from Patric Hornqvist.

Luckily Seguin did not display any concussion like symptoms and after a few stitches he was good to go. Obviously the results could've been a lot worse. Seguin was "luckier" than some of his NHL counterparts have been after an elbow but the end result shouldn't change the situation. An elbow is an elbow, whether or not someone gets hurt.

And before any idiots get on our case, we already said we thought Marchand's hit was dirty and he deserved the suspension. Even Marchand kind of admitted it. So suck it.

However, now things are getting real as another NHL sponsor has threatened to pack up and go home unless the NHL does something!

After the jump..... we end the serious part of this post and dig into a more "serious" matter.......

Damn you Shea Weber. Bruins Lose.

Written by Jon on .

Tough loss. Pekka Rinne is good. Shea Weber is good. Bruins can't hold late leads.

Losses to decent teams generally hurt less. You win some, you lose some. This one hurt because a defensive lapse and a stupid, stupid Kampfer penalty cost the B's a point here.

Montreal won. Creeping up on the Bruins. B's have lost five of six. Saying "oh they earned a point" is loser talk. B's need wins, not charity points.

Onto Toronto on Saturday. Hopefully B's can bounce back.

After the jump..... good game, tough loss but St Patrick's day is pretty fun........

NHL gives Marchand a mini-vacation

Written by Justin on .

Brad Marchand suspended 2 games for hit on RJ Umberger
Per the Boston Bruins:
Brad Marchand is suspended 2 games
Exactly what we predicted yesterday. Paille got 4 for his hit that concussed whatshisface; Marchand's hit didn't result in anything but an irritated Umberger. You know, other than a suspension.

This is probably the best thing for Marchand who had been in a bit of a rookie slump as of late. He's also been taking dumb penalities lately. This mini-vacation will hopefully allow him to regain his focus and cool his jets.

Bruins need less...

DOY Teaming up with Muze Clothing and the Neely Foundation

Written by Jon on .

We have some great news we've been (im)patiently awaiting to talk about.

At the TruFan/CSNNE blog awards, we were introduced to a man named Michael Kalil, one of the fellas over at Muze Clothing:

"Born out of an appreciation and dedication to classic movie lines, Muze is a lifestyle brand where movie quotes and fashion collide to bring you your new favorite shirt. Who doesn’t know someone that speaks in movie lines? Seemingly meaningless utterances to some are timeless classics for others."

What Muze Clothing also does is partner up with local celebrities and athletes, and design shirts based about that celeb/athlete's favorite movie quote and gives the proceeds from those shirts to the celeb/athlete's charity of choice. Current celebs/athletes who have worked with Muze include Josh Beckett, Ray Allen, Jeremy Roenick and Drew Brees. Big names and faces.

Now another Boston legend has joined up.

Michael mentioned that they might be teaming up with the Cam Neely Foundation and the Boston Bruins Foundation and asked if we would be interested in helping to promote the shirts. Helping a charity? A charity run by Cam Neely? And a charity run by the Bruins? Of course we were interested!

So today Days of Y'Orr is happy to announce we have officially partnered up with Muze Clothing to help promote Neely's shirt of choice. Like we said, the proceeds from the shirt go towards the Neely House Foundation and the Boston Bruins Foundation.

If you're wondering what the Neely Foundation does:

"The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care was launched in 1995 by the Neely family after the passing of their parents Marlene and Michael Neely from cancer. This experience created the inspiration to help others living with cancer. With the dream of honoring their beloved parents and the hope of helping others, The Cam Neely Foundation was created to help cancer patients and their families during treatments. As millions of Americans will be diagnosed this year with some form of cancer, an understandable sense of urgency propels the Foundation's mission."

And what the Boston Bruins Foundation does:

"The Foundation provides grants to organizations that meet the standards of its mission, concentrating on the four areas (athletic, academics, health, community outreach) where it is best able to enrich the community"

It should come as no surprise that Mr. Neely chose a line from Die Hard: "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."

Game Day Preview: Bruins @ Predators

Written by Greg on .

Happy St. Patricks Day to my Irish friends out there. I wish I could do an auditory game day preview so I could use a thick Irish accent, but I can't. I know, it's a shame. If you're out celebrating, please don't drink and drive tonight. Be smart - or smaht if you live in Boston.

The Bruins are still on the road man, this time they're in Nashville taking on the Predators.

hansen
No, not those predators, THE Predators. Much like our Blue Jackets preview, there are some teams that Day of Y'Orr isn't familiar with and this is one of those. I mean, I know Pekka Rinne is good. For those who aren't "hip" to the Nashville team,. Rinne has been on point this season. He's second in the NHL in GAA (2.09), second in save percentage (.926), and fourth in shutouts (6) - all of these numbers are behind Tim Thomas, which can only mean one thing -

GOALIE FIGHT!

thomasrinnemk

You damn right. Pekka vs. Timmy in a slobber knocker for NHL goalie supermacy!

Anywho, the Bruins are coming off of a 3-2 shootout win where Tuukka Rask played out of his fucking mind. Captain Zdeno Chara and Rich Peverley scored the meaningful goals for Boston, while Seguin deked Steve Mason out of his pads in the shootout. To say it was a bad win may be an understatement, but the Bruins certainly got lucky. If Rask doesn't play out of his mind, the score could very well be 6-2 in favor the Blue Jackets. The most alarming thing; Columbus isn't even a good hockey team. They're 12th in the West with 74 points (which would actually make them 9th in the East and in the middle of a playoff hunt), so maybe it speaks more to the weakness in the East. Whatever the census is, the Bruins are a top 3 team in the East (by standing only, unfortunately) and should be dismanteling teams like the Jackets.

The Predators aren't any better. They're currently 10th in the West with 80 points. God damn, 80 points puts you in 10th in the West? Maybe they are a good hockey team but the East sucks so bad that we can't judge by position alone. All I know if the Predators have an elite goalie (this season) but their offense isn't very good. The Preds don't have one goal scorer over 20 (Patric Hornqvist has 18). In fact, their goals per game is ranked 26th in the league at 2.47 per game. Yikes. Their saving grace is their D led by Shea Weber and their goaltending. The Predators are second in the NHL in goals against per game with 2.30 and a penalty kill that has success 85.4% of the time they're on the ice.

Hmm - an offensively challenged hockey team that survives by defense and goaltending? Sounds familiar doesn't it?

After the jump we look at some more game day stuff, including links...

Grindin' Gears: These are not the Bruins you're looking for

Written by Greg on .

grindingears
I'm not in the greatest mood today, so I doubt this is going to be nice. However, if you got the Star Wars refence in the title; congrats. So the Bruins won last night in Columbus but let's be honest, it was a game they shouldn't have won. They stole that fucking game from the Blue Jackets and high tailed it out of Columbus before all five Blue Jackets fans began a protest. Even during that game, it took fucking miracles to prevent Columbus from scoring. Between Rask making Superman-type saves and Tomas Kaberle playing back-up goalie, the Bruins still had to go to a shootout to beat Columbus. Days of Y'Orr laid out the statistics out for everyone on the losing streak compared to the 7 game winning streak they were on prior to the game against Pittsburgh. Although Boston won last night, they only scored 2 goals (goal number 3 was because they won the shootout) which is their average per game while losing.

It's a sad state of affairs in Boston lately. Last night the Bruins killed six penalties and had one power play that last a whole five seconds. A lot of people are getting ready to jump on the officiating, but the discipline by Boston needs to be better. Case in point, Bergeron's interference call on the power play was a stupid mistake on his part. Sure, Calvert dove twice which allowed Columbus to get on the power play, but even if you take those two penalties out of the equation, Boston still have to kill four of them.

After the jump, I rant like a lunatic some more...
