WTF Bruins. Habs win.

Written by Justin on .

Sorry, but this recap is going to be short. We're not in much of a recap mood after this game.

Simply put: Bruins should've won this. How do you blow a two goal lead with three minutes left in the game?

AngryBruinsFan had this right:
All of a sudden, Boston took their foot of off the gas pedal and took a “prevent defense” type approach where they would bleed the clock and win the game. The issue is that THIS TYPE OF PLAY DOESN’T WORK. Bruins fans who have paid attention over the past few years can attest that Claude Julien’s system at the end of games does not work.
We're not exactly on the "Fire Claude" bandwagon, but shit's not right. It's the same ol' story. Bruins are making guys like Murph and Haggs job easy. We're 99.9% sure they already know what quotes they're going to be fed about another letdown. Hell, they could repurpose any quote/story from earlier in the year and just change the team name.

There's no space for prevent defense, no room to take the foot off the metaphorical gas pedal in today's NHL. You play and you play hard a full 60 minutes. You let up for a sec and shit like tonight happens. You need to pepper more shots on Price. Pathetic.

Chara was in another post-game scrum. More "Suspend him!" BS being spewed. They might be right. The push was borderline at worse. Might've been a little extra of a dig, but we're not entirely convinced. It definitely wasn't bad enough to cause this firestorm, though.

Zdeno Chara

We're glad Chara shows some fight, but it'd be nice if it happened during the game. Post-game does nothing but give opponent's fans fodder.

Game Day: Bruins vs. Canadiens - F the French

Written by Jon on .

Ahhh... the Canadiens. We love this rivalry. Too bad the Bruins don't anymore.

Is it just us, or has something been different with the rivalry over the past year? The Bruins don't seem to get up for it anymore. So far this season they've played some really lazy, uninspired hockey against the Habs. Maybe the new guys aren't well versed on the rivalry. Who knows. But...

Last game seemed to reignite the flames a little bit. Krejci punched out Cammalleri. KREJCI!

Montreal fans can cheer all they want because Cammalleri got the take down but Krejci won that fight. Look at lil Mikey's bloody face. Funny Cammalleri didn't really connect until Krejci was on the ground. Classic Habs. Pansies.

But that wasn't all. Nope. That P.K. Subban fellow crushed Brad Marchand. Marchand would even end up missing a few games. Then Subban slew footed Campbell after the hit and somehow Campbell got a roughing penalty. Refs are idiots. Montreal players and fans continue to be pansies.

Was that the game the reignites the fires of the rivalry? Or are we going to see the Bruins fall flat again when the stakes are raised?

After the jump... Carey Price is a douche, Horton might be out and some game day links.......

Minnesota Runs Wild. Bruins Lose.

Written by Jon on .

Bruins must have nightmares about Jose Theodore and the Minnesota Wild. They never seem to do well against either. Boston fell to 0-6-0 at home against the Wild since the Wild came into the league. Lazy play and turnovers cost the Bruins. Well, so did a questionable hooking call on Shawn Thornton.

Boston came out flatter than Kate Moss in the second while the Wild opened up a shooting gallery on Tuukka Rask. Thornton went to the box because the refs were bored and Boston's lazy play let up a first goal. If Rask wasn't sharp, this game ends 54-1.

The game basically boiled down to a duel between Rask and Theodore. Good and Evil. Unfortunately for Rask, evil prevailed because his teammates thought it would be super cool to have terrible turnovers and stretches of uninspired play. Bruins eventually turned it on but Jose Theodore was playing out of his mind.

Of course, the Wild really didn't play that shabby. They're on fire lately. Gotta give credit where credit is due. The Wild capitalized on the opportunities they were given. Bruins just couldn't solve Jose Theodore. He was like the Riddler.

Rask showed he still has the moves. Two starts in a row for the youngster and he was still schooling bitches. He's the man. Most action he's seen all season. Often times he was working alone. Like Batman.

After the jump, this recap is brought to you by 1960's Batman.........

Game Day: Wild vs. Bruins -- Home at Last

Written by Justin on .

Game 39: Minnesota Wild vs. Boston Bruins, 1/6/11
After a big road trip our beloved Bruins are back at the TD Garden to take on the Wild.

Not gonna lie -- this is one of those games where you just kinda forget about when looking at the schedule. We don't have much of an opinion on these guys. They're like the chores of the NHL -- you might not love to do it, but you prob don't hate it either. They're just there.

Like chores, the Wild are just there.
Chuck Kobasew is back in Boston. That's "exciting." He has a whopping 6 goals and 1 assist. Thornton has 7 goals and 2 assists. 'Nuff said.

There's a dumbass rumor going around about Marc Savard being traded. If you:

1) Retweeted said rumor (in seriousness, not mocking)
2) Believed it

You're probably also a dumbass.

Umm.... yea... not much else going on. Bruins are still first in the Northeast and third in the East. Go Team Fire Claude #sarcasm.

After the jump... projected rosters (Tuukka or Timmy?)... game day links... and game day video... Add a comment

Figure skating Bruins?

Written by Justin on .

The Boston Globe does these weekly "Caption Contest"...errr... contests, involving cartoons one of their artists draws. This week involves the above image: two Boston Bruins figure skating.

We haven't seen moves like that since Kenny Wu.

One bitter Sabres fan did tell us to "go watch figure skating" after the Chara vs. Sabres brawl a few weeks back. Maybe they are on to something?

Obviously if you have a good caption idea, head over to Boston.com and enter; we think you win a prize (not 100% sure). Mostly likely the Globe will only take the "family friendly" replies and publish them on their site, but this pic is leaving doors wide open. Leave your captions in the comment field here, so we all can enjoy our juvenile humor.

Grinding Gears: Hey Canada, why all the hate?

Written by Greg on .

What Grinds Greg's Gears? Canada hockeyGreg is the newest member of Days of Y'Orr. He's our big midseason pick-up. What can we say? Purrgeron is a master orator and negotiator. Anyways, this is Greg's first piece for DOY so be gentle (or at least use lube). We're hoping his writing and ranting will be a weekly Wednesday feature on the site. For more Greg, follow him on Twitter @Pez5611 and read this other blog, Angry Bruins Fan.

I really like this new place. I don't know if it is just the new digs of the fung shui of the drapes, but whatever is going on here is okay with me.

Welcome to the weekly segment here at Days of Y'Orr called "You Know What Really Grinds My Gears?". Yes, it is a complete rip-off from Family Guy, but what are you going to do about it? As I mentioned, this will be a weekly segment on Days of Y'Orr where I'll begin to vent frustrations on the Bruins and anything else hockey related.

You know what really grinds my gears?

Canada.

Who do you think you are with your complaining about the World Juniors being held in Buffalo?

What? Can't America host a hockey tournament? No, hockey is not the number one sport in America, but there is still a very passionate following. I don't see why Canada needs to be all high and mighty regarding hockey either. You don't hear Americans complaining that Toronto has an NBA team (lets not forget the famed failed Vancouver Grizzlies experiment either, eh?) or that the Buffalo Bills play two games a year in Toronto.

It is apparent the Canada has a sharing problem.

More on Canada hockey and other Random Thoughts from Greg after the jump.... do it up...

Tuukkamania Running Wild. Bruins Win.

Written by Jon on .

This game was way closer than it should have been. We said this right at the beginning of the game:

Leafs outshot the Bruins 18-9 in the third period. Too much sitting back and watching. Rask held down the fort. See what happens when he gets his reps in? He was shaky to start but he stole a win for this team. Bruins put up some good shots on Reimer but couldn't finish. They basically coasted in the third. But hey, they ended their road trip with a win and took 8 out 10 points.

This game was basically a duel between Phil Kessel and Tuukka Rask. Rask was the big story, and boy did he deliver. Rask won this game. Toronto was everywhere in the third, throwing great shots on net almost constantly and Rask just gave them the middle finger. Great to see him bounce back like that after Saturday's game. Scary to think about how awesome the Bruins can be if Rask and Thomas are both clicking.

Looks like Julien is moving on uuuuuuuuuup.

After the jump, Rask out duels Kessel, top line starts clicking and Seguin seems to be rounding a corner....

Days of Y'Orr Picks Up a Free Agent.....

Written by Jon on .

Days of Y'Orr beat reporter and General Manager Patrice Purrgeron's phone has been blowing up the past few weeks as he explored the free agent market and tried to work out deals with other GMs for trades.

Several days ago, talks with one particular free agent heated up, and apparently Mr. Purrgeron was able to strike a deal. We now take you live to the press conference.

After the jump, thanks to Purrgeron's expert negotiations, Days of Y'Orr welcomes another staff member.....

Game Day: Bruins vs. Toronto -- Rask Returns

Written by Justin on .

Bruins Game 38 vs. Toronto Maple Leafs 1/3/11
First off: Patrice Purrgeron has confirmed he signed a new player to the Days of Y'Orr roster. A press conference is planned for later in the evening. Get your questions ready.

Rumor has it that Claude Julien is starting Tuukka Rask tonight after yanking him after one period against Buffalo.

We said it the other day and we'll say it again, pulling Tuukka after one period of sloppy play was retarded. Rask let in one softie; the rest can be written off to rust and sloppy play in front of him.

Some quotes from Julien on Tuukka:

“Yesterday we had to settle the game down and we looked a little rattled. With Tim going in we thought it would settle things down a little. [Rask] was fighting the puck a little."

Clearly putting a tired Timmy in didn't do anything. Would've been better to see if Rask settled down in the second. He hadn't worked in over two weeks for shit's sake.

''I'd say it's more confidence now...head stuff,'' said Julien, asked if he felt Rask's struggles were rooted in mechanics or confidence. ''Mechanically, he's a sound goaltender...he needs to build his confidence back up.''

Which would be a huge help if he got, y'know, some reps in beyond one period.

“We need him. We can’t have just one goalie.’’

Ugh... sorry, Claude, but that's exactly what you've been doing since mid-December.

This isn't to sound like we're anti-Thomas. We love Timmy the Tank, but he admitted feeling fatigued after the Thrasher's game. And Rask can't grow as a goalie and competitor if he a) doesn't get his reps in in-action and b) when he does he gets pulled. Julien showed 0 confidence in Rask the other day and it's unwarranted since Rask's Save% would be among the best in the league if he had enough starts.

Our prediction: Tuukka Rask pulls Claude Julien after the first.

After the jump... Seguin and Thornton line combo = Powderkeg of Goals... projected roster... game day links... game day video...
